    How much thicker is a Beretta 92fs compared to a 1911 ?

I have a Beretta airsoft gun from years ago (should be a pretty exact replica) and I'm wondering how much thicker it is than a 1911.

Anybody have any pics side by side showing the two guns ?
I want to get an idea if I can pull off concealing a 1911

I have a number of 1911s, and have measured them with calipers. The standard slide width (flat to flat) on a 1911 is 0.90 inches. The grip safety will stick out a little further than that.

The grip width on a regular, single stack 1911 varies depending on the type of grip panels used. With the fairly standard thick panels, the grip is about 1.25 inches wide at the thickest point, but is rounded or oval in cross section. With "thin" grip panels, the grip is about 1.05 inches thick at the widest point.

So a 1911 is a pretty thin gun compared to most other guns. I haven't measured a Beretta 92, but I have handled and fired one. It is a pretty thick gun, and lots thicker than a 1911.

    Their listing says 1.5".

I quit carrying mine due to the safety. I just wasn't sure I could flick it off every time (and it didn't have the option for an SA first round!).

Having carried both (the Beretta was a 96, but same dimensions), I can tell you that the 1911 will feel a LOT better. Both are heavy, but the spare mags for the 1911 will hide anywhere.

I'd have to give the 1911 a firm tip of the hat in this case.

    Beretta vs 1911 thickness...

The Beretta is much thicker!! I like it, but it is too large for my son to shoot. I also worry that I'm going to accidently engage the safety when I rack the slide since the safety is mounted on the slide...

    1911's are great... I own 3. But I carry a Sig 220 "carry" in .45 caliber. Good luck :)
