For some reason I recall they used the HK P2000 in .40.

But I may be waaaaayyyyy off.

    *Edited to add:

I knew a Customs agent in Detroit, he had a P2000 in .40S&W issued as his service pistol.

Yep, switched/switching from Berrettas to the HK. Customs carries the LEM p2000's as well.

I guess they have changed. Probably 5 or 6 years ago they used, here in NM, the Beretta .40. The officer I talked to did not like it, and it was not as reliable as the 9mm.

My understanding was that the Department of Homeland Security and ICE solicited bids to produce a sidearm for issue to US Border Patrol and ICE agents/officers.

A number of manufacturers submitted pistols for review. This included, but was not limited to, accuracy, down-range performance, reliability, durability and size (to fit a wider range of personnel with different sized hands).

It was the H&K P2000 that won.

What they lack is the ability to use them when needed!

Looks like everybody could be right on this one. I only posted a portion of the info on the links. Your search might turn up more.

    Shooting Industry, Nov, 2004

The firearm industry continues to receive a significant number of firearm and ammunition contracts from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS). The department recently awarded handgun contracts to Heckler & Koch (HK) and Sigarms worth nearly $50 million dollars. Each company received contracts for a maximum of 65,000 pistols that agencies within DHS may purchase over the next five years.

ICE agents and officers carry the Sig Sauer P229R pistol with the DAK trigger chambered in .40 S&W, the Heckler & Koch USP Compact with LEM trigger in .40 S&W, or the Glock 19 pistol chambered in 9mm. Eventually, all ICE special agents and officers will transition to the Sig Sauer P229R-DAK as their primary sidearm.

They use them more than any other LE agency. I also note that their pistol teams are at the top, although I have not followed them lately.

Why do you say they lack?

    Jerry

I think he means that they should be able to shoot back more often in AZ's neck of the woods.

My error, I didn't mean to insult the men and women serving. My anger lies toward the administration that hog ties them when they are under fire.

I met some recruiters in my home town that carried .40 H&K P2000s.
The preceding post may contain sarcasm; it's just better that way. However, it is still intended with construction and with the Love of my L-rd Y'shua.

I answered the question in post #9. There were others also.

I sure do agree with that! The agents have the most difficult job overall of any LE.
If you ever read articles about or by Charles Askins you see an entirely different era. He would not make it today due to the liberal thinking, but that generation would get the job done now if unshackled. So could the current one.
