Kahr P9 Range Report
I purchased a new Kahr P9 on Thursday and went to the range today and went through 260 rounds. Overall i am very pleased but have some possible concerns. i had a total of 3 malfunctions (which really isn't that bad). i had one FTF and two where the slide wouldn't close totally after i racked back the slide. i had to manually push the slide the rest of the way closed. There was maybe and 1/4 inch left that needed to be closed. Also i have found that when i use the slide lock to close the slide on a full magazine it sometime doesn't feed into the ramp.
Any info would help on these situations!
Thanks in advance

My CW9 was finicky until about the 500 round mark, but it's been flawless since. They are pretty tight when new and really need the break-in period to loosen up. It could have been getting dirty and dry. My Kahr seems to run best when really well lubed.

my PM-9 took about a hundred rounds to be 100%reliable.

It kind of sounds like may be riding the slide in on the release.
As far as the failure to feed when dropping the slide release, it could be a lubrication issue or it could just need to be broken in. It also could, again, be your hand getting in the way of the slide and slowing it down. You could also try polishing the feed ramp and inspect it for any burrs or abnormalities.

I run my Kahr with grease instead of oil...it's much happier.

The slide lock is just that a slide lock, not to be confused with a slide release. Sling shot method is want you want to use with a Kahr. Other than that, finish the break in period per the owners manual (you read that...right?
) and it'll be fine.

This is a huge debate on some other forums. On page 12 of the Kahr manual, it states:
"Do not chamber a round by pulling back on the slide and letting go of the slide. This may cause the slide to not go fully into battery."
It advises to lock the slide back using the slide stop, then releasing the slide stop to chamber a round.

Remember, the owners manuals operation procedures are written for the lowest common denominator. That is the easiest way, but you still can do both wrong.

Trust the owner's manual on this one, using the slide stop will work every time, sling-shotting will not necessarily work every time. I know it is counter intuitive, but from personal experience (and reading the Kahr section on GlockTalk) bear this one out.

Agreed. PM9 here.
Always chamber the first one from slide lock position.
100% reliable.
These little guns are wound so tight and it's harder to get a good grip on the smaller than full sized slide, that it's easy to not do a "perfect" slingshot.
Besides, what's the diff? I mean, you ARE gonna carry one in the pipe anyway, right? If not, well, ....
I load first round with slide stop release, remove mag and top off and reinsert to get the full starting capacity.

Thanks for all the reply's. Sorry for no being clear in the problems(I'm still a newbie). I was using the slide stop and inserting the magazine, then using the slide release but still would get one that would not feed or the slide wouldn't return back to it's position.
Also I'm guilty, I haven't read the manual all the way through

Also make sure top round in magazine is angled in an upward position, but sounds like a lube problem.

Did you clean and lube before shooting the first time?
Use the slide release lever to chamber rounds.
Use a quality gun grease or oil.
The Kahr feed ramps come polished, leave it alone.
The Kahr chamber can be ammo sensitive due to bullet shape and polygonal barrel, so try different ammo.
Here's a lube chart for the Kahr...

Update
Ok, so i cleaned the P9 like crazy and oiled the thing like crazy. i cycled through 2 magazines and had no feeding problems what so ever. I am content now. I will still shoot a couple hundred more rounds on top of the 260 i have already shot before i carry it just to make sure.
thanks so much for the responses.
Can anybody tell me what type of oil or grease i should use?
