I love them! After buying a Brown Kobra Carry, I've had three more 1911's bobtailed.

Must be you. I like them, and plan on getting a DW Bobtail Commander when I can find one.
Of course a true purist would not own a semi. After all if it isn't a wheelgun it isn't a gun.
Or maybe a true purist whould be carrying a singleshot flintlock.

Maybe this purist just has a thing about perverting an American Icon like the JMB designed 1911. BTW I own 17 1911s and DO prefer them to revolvers.

I personally see it as the natural evolution of the 1911. It was upgraded from its original form with the 1911A1. Since then, we've added extended safeties, commander hammers, and beavertail grip safeties. The bobtail fits better in my hand and from all accounts makes them more concealable.

    p.s. I wants one.

Hey, the pic of my "bobtail car", a Gremlin, was removed. Guess it's not right to make light of 1911s that have had something amputated...

Compare it to the evolution of the round butt S&W revolvers. They're not for everyone either, and started off as a custom job. Now they're available in round or square.

I'm with you. I understand the utility of it, but it just doesn't look right.

To each his own but I didn't care about having a 1911 until I saw the Bobtail version. Now just waiting on my birthday so I can give one as a present from me to me. The square butt on most 1911's looks unfinished to me.

as far as a concealed 1911 goes i definatly can't spell definatelly and love the DW cbob. For range and bump in the night i still like my full size gov unmessed with model 1911s.
Like was stated earlier, everyone likes nuts so get another 1911 and enjoy the taste!

I love the look of them and if they help conceal them that much better that's a huge +1! However, I would like to actually hold one before I send my Springer off to be bobtailed... what a travesty to have custom work done only to find out you hate the way it fits in your hand.
