    Poor finish on the LCP

I purchased the LCP 4 weeks ago and after putting 100 rounds through it with no problems I decided to let it be my new CCW. I have carried it now for 3 weeks in a High Noon Hidden Ally Leather Holster. I wipe the gun down every other night to maintain the finish of the gun and I break it down and throughly clean and oil the gun on the weekends. Yesterday I removed the gun from the holster and to my dismay there were marks the left side of the slide and the finish appeared to be coming off. I am going to put about another 200 rounds through it to make sure it has no other problems and then I am going to get it refinished.

I do not know if what is worse, the finish on the LCP or the High Noon holster.

Attached are a couple views of the gun and a view of the High Noon Holster.

Also, does anyone have any good reccomendations for a gun refinisher? Thanks.

that looks like some nasty corrosion. my brother's keltec PF9 had the same problem; he sent it in for refinishing, and they ended up replacing the whole slide.

I would contact Ruger, that should not happen in 4 weeks unless you bath it in Salt water

What the heck??? You mean all that happened between the time you put it in the holster and the time you took it back out? Or was it a gradual thing?

Something is wrong there, I dont think you should be paying to get it refinished. I have had mine since they first came out and it still looks like new and I carry it in a pocket holster all the time.

Wipe it down with what? Whats your procedure here for this? Every other night? Seems a bit excessive but... lets see whats going on here. What are you wiping it with?

I thought it was really weird also. I wiped it down on Friday evening, carried it Saturday, and Sunday I removed it from the holster and there it was. I have emailed Ruger and plan on calling them soon.

Does anyone have any reccomendations for a Tuckable IWB holster that could be of better quality than the High Noon Holster? I work in an office atmosphere and I am not a big fan of pocket carry. Thanks.

Finishes don't corrode like that unless they're subjected to some kind of ouside influence, like heavy perspiration or salt water.

In this case, I suspect tanning acids in the leather holster as the cause.

    I don't think it's a Ruger factory problem. I do think it's a holster problem.

I agree, especially in 1 days time.

First off, yes contact Ruger, I've never seen such bad deterioration on a gun finish from what you have described. Second, a GOOD tuckable holster is the MINI TUCK by Crossbreed. I very happy with mine. I have not been impressed with High Noon holsters made with that questionable pseudo leather stuff they have been using. Perhaps it is cowhide as they say, but it not like the leather I'm used to seeing in a holster. I'd recommend going with the $15 upgrade to HORSEHIDE on the MINI TUCK, it is more moisture resistant. Good luck. IF the problem is with the finish by Ruger, I'm sure they WILL correct the problem. Their guarantee is solid in my experience.

Well, mine has started to rust on the barrel. I wiped it down and made sure not to over lube. I carried it in a Don Hume leather holster and always took it out and wiped it down after carrying it all day. Needless to say, after all the work it took to get the little guy....I'm a touch upset.

I pocket carry mine all the time in a nemesiss, and it looks brandy new. And yes I know I spelled nemesiss wrong. I would be on the horn with Ruger ASAP.

I carry mine in a DeSantis Nemisis too. No problems so far. I wipe it down with a RemOil saturated microfibre cloth.

I've carried my XD9SC off and on for over a year in the same holster and never experienced problems such as yours.

Hope you get it figured out.
