Probably the 45. Before I selected my EDC I shot 9. 40 and 45. The 45 "felt" the best. By "felt", I mean it was the closest to a natural part of me. I then selected the brand and model. I shot the XD, Glock and M&P before making my choice.

Depends on the role I want filled. Strictly a CCW piece, I'd have a hard time choosing between a G23 or G36, but I'd go with the 36 most likely.

I seem to be inherently more accurate with a .45 than a .40.....may be due to the snappiness of the recoil of the .40, but who knows.

Fortunately though, I'm not limited to only those 2 choices.

I would be happy with either a .40 caliber Glock 23 (which I have) or a .45 caliber Glock 30 (which I have considered). The two guns are very similar in size, probably fit in the same holsters, and have similar recoil. The G30 seems a little wider in the grip, but not much.

I believe that either .40 or .45 work very well for self defense, and am indifferent as to which I carry. I can shoot them equally well and own several guns in each caliber.

I would see if you could rent both the .40 and .45 caliber Glocks at a range to see which one you liked the best. Without knowing your hand size and shooting experience, what works for someone else may not work for you. Both calibers have abundant choices in good self defense oriented ammunition. You really can't go wrong with either choice for self defense.

Having said all of that though, the .45 has a slight edge in the accuracy department IMHO.

I think I'd go with what I already carry on my Harley...a Glock-36.

anything but another person that carrys a glock .40 s&W!
sorry. i happen to not be a fan of glocks of 40cals. So i guess I would go with the .45, not b/c of any kind of 'stopping power' crap (I carry a 9mm), but because I hate the way .40s feel. I like .45s much better.

I am very accurate with both the .45 and 9mm ...But my goal is to stop the threat as quick as possible and accurately without placing innocent people in any danger...So my choice would be the .45

IMHO shot placement is more important than bullet diameter. My theory is that a 9mm, .40 or .45 are equally fatal with correct shot placement. I carry a .40 cal Beretta and find it plenty accurate in the "self-defense" zone of 15 yards or less.

    With my admittedly limited experience:

    • Easier perceived recoil
    • Bigger bullet = bigger hole

    • Capacity...bigger bullets = take up more space
    • Frame size...a double-stack gun to overcome the capacity issue is probably going to be pretty thick
    • Ammo cost

    • Capacity
    • Bigger bullet than 9mm

    • Recoil. I do NOT like the recoil of the .40S&W. Too "flippy" for me.
    • Ammo cost. .40S&W ammo isn't all that much cheaper than .45ACP, if at all.

My personal preference for round in general, independent of gun manufacture, is .45ACP.

    My two yen...

I'll take a .45 every time. I can shoot it consistantly and it does a good job at what it's designed to do.

My EDC is a G30. I have larger hands and it fits me very well. I am also able to stay on target better and shoot more consistently with the .45 than the .40 or 9mm

For me it would depend on ammo availability and parts.

If given a choice I'd go with the 45, all other things being equal. I'm not a fan of the 40.
