Smart Carry. I carry a 4" SA XD40 or a 3" SA XD9 SC. They both conceal very well. If I am out in the winter with a coat or heavier jacket, I will wear the smart carry over the shirt and under the jacket.
In summer, shorts and t-shirt still conceals it well.

Although my off-duty weapons are nice and compact Kahr 9mm's, my work gun is a SIGARMS P229 carried in OWB holsters underneath tucked out short sleeve collared shirts or suits.
I'm not a big guy either.

I used to carry my Ruger .40 caliber P94 winter and summer. Summertime I'd wear a sleeveless Tee with a tropical type short sleeve light weight shirt over it - XXL. Now I carry a S&W .45 caliber CS45. Smaller and lighter than the Ruger, a little eaiser to conceal.

Thanks for so many replies so fast. I was really curious since I know of several people who carry (besides myself) and aside from a woman who carries a Ruger P-89 in her purse... a LARGE purse, they usually carry smaller guns - like Kel Tec’s, Bersa 380's and small frame S&W revolvers - unless the weather allows them to comfortably wear coats or longer jackets.

I carry a 5" 1911, and although I fit the large category (6'3" 260lbs) it is not just my size that conceals. Here in VA it gets HOT and humid in the summer and my "uniform" has become an untucked polo shirt from the big and tall shops.

Buy some of the cheap hawaiian shirts. The louder the better. Wear a t-shirt underneath the hawaiian shirt and you can carry almost anything. People see the shirt and never think of this person having a gun.

As a North Texan I understand your question pretty well. As a newbie, sans CHL until issued, though, my ideas are not "field-tested", so I'm being real conservative in the way I think about it and what I'm doing when I carry around the house.
I'm 5'8", 160 lbs. I wear alot of slacks (shirt always tucked in). I also wear a lot of very casual sportcoats - corduroy and faux suede in the late fall, early spring. In winter, I might add a casual leather vest under those, or a real coat. I'm trying an IWB as well as an OWB for my Glock 17. I also wear suits. My propensity to wear a jacket makes all of that feel pretty natural.
In the summer, same dress at work, but I end up in cargo style shorts a lot, and tucked in golf shirts. I dunno what I'll do then, except take my wife everywhere. She carries a Glock 26 in her cargo shorts with a pocket holster. I think that'll give me an excuse to shop for another more compact gun for summer carry.....
I do have a Beretta Bobcat 22LR Mouse gun for summer pocket carry, but I'm waiting for P95Carry to write up a review on his recent Rorbaugh acquisition!
Anyway, good luck. There's a lot of really helpful folks here!

R&G - I would suggest you do coupla things - I have written a lot on this lil' gun - which I call ''the pup''!

You can read about it on the forum - including some probs folks have had - no gun is perfect always for everyone straight away.
Best place to start tho is my Rohrbaugh FAQ site - it gives info of various sorts and buttons there will let you go read my early test results. It is not that new, as #1 gun was May 2004 and #2, which is carry (BUG usually) - was Oct 2004.
