    XD Line question...

With the introduction of the new XDm in .40 cal, is it Springfield's intention to redesign the entire XD line in this fashion?

If so, if the original XD design will be phased out, has anyone noticed a drop in price of the original XD medium sized model? My wife carries an XD .40 Sub Compact and I really have been wanting to get a mid sized .40 cal XD. I am just wondering if the price will be coming down now that the XDm is on the market.

Honestly though, I really really like the XDm. Will they be making an XDm sub compact?

I hope not. While the XDM maybe superior I don't like the agressive grip for carry. I'm guessing it may be like the way they have their 1911's set up from GI up to the TRP's

From what I've read, they consider the XD-M their premium line and they will be keeping the standard XDs around. The M's will stay at a higher price point.

Can someone tell me the difference between the XD and XDm. Aside from the cosmetic differences in the plastic, is there really functional difference between the two models?

One major difference is the .40 XDm holds 16 rounds and the .40 XD holds 12 rounds IIRC. I've heard the mags do not interchange.

Can't recall exactly, but perhaps the XDm doesn't need the trigger pulled for disassembly. I don't remember for sure. Been awhile since I read about it.

Another difference is you don't have to pull the trigger to take it apart.

    Differences:

    1. The XD-M does not require the trigger to be pulled to strip it down.

    2. The barrel and slide is a bit longer on the XD-M.

    3. The grip is a bit longer on the XD-M.

    4. Mag capacity of the XD-M is 16 rounds, the standard XD is 12.

    5. The sights on the XD-M are upgraded.

    6. The XD-M comes standard with a match grade barrel.

I believe that the mags for the XD-M will not work in the standard XD because the XD-M mags are a bit wider. The polymer is different on the XD-M, stiffer and as a result, the polymer is not as thick in the grip/mag well as on the standard XD.

My only gripe with the XD-M is I do not like the checkering of the grips. The "checkering" is a bit too aggressive for me. Other than that, I do like it. But I will probably settle for the standard version.

This month's issue of Guns and Ammo has an ad for the new XDm 9mm that boast 19 +1 capacity. I am not a 9mm guy but that is tempting! I have not shot the M yet but holding it at the gun store I was impressed with the feel of the backstrap, and the aggresive grip feels real good in the hand!

The XD-m also has interchangeable backstraps and a stiffer, stronger polymer. In addition to not needing to be pulled to take down the gun, the trigger is also shorter and crisper, and the slide serrations are going in the other direction - no more slipping off the slide when you rack it with sweaty hands!

I have the xdsc and love it. But I wish they would come out with a single stack xd. That would be the berrys to go with my xd I already have.

Have you looked at the polymer Kahrs? That's probably as close as you'll get.
