My FIRST Python originally had a four inch barrel. I bought it new circa 1965 for $125. It even came with Ellison rear sights. It was beautiful, indeed, but it was a working piece at the time and within a very short while a piece of blue came off the back strap about the size of my trigger finger's fingernail.

I never had it refinished but I ultimately had Don Tedford, Colt's number one gunsmith of the sixties and seventies, to re-barrel it in six inches for PPC competition and give it his best trigger tune. It then was truly a mechanical masterpiece. My only presently owned Python is a six inch stainless model upon which Reeves Jungkind has performed his $300 magic trigger job.

I have had at least two experiences with factory refinishing and neither proved totally satisfactory; a Smith & Wesson Model 38 started to show rust just a few months back from Springfield and a Beretta O/U shotgun could have had its new finish replicated lots of other places closer to home at a fourth of what it cost at Accokeek.

That in mind, prepare yourself to be possibly disappointed with the results you get even if you return a firearm to the original manufacturer for refinishing.

I just saw a 4" Python about three weeks ago in a local shop. It had some wear on the finish and was functioning flawlessly, $1299! I am sooooo envious, great find.
