    Taurus 1911??? -- Should I buy one?

    Hey all,
I'm looking for a 1911 (don't have any -- I'm a revo guy) and I don't want to spend a ton. Does Taurus make good 1911's? I would use this as my primary EDC and a S&W J-frame as my BUG. Check the link below -- the model I am considering also has a light rail -- so it can get night stand duty too! Let me know what you think!

I have a PT 1911 Taurus........I like it just fine. Shot a couple of hundred rounds with not problems.

I have a PT1911 that I purchased about 6 months ago. No problems with it. So far has gone bang everytime. Accuracy has been good with it. I didn't particularly care for the Heine straight 8 night sights that came on it and switched out for PT night sights. You will need a good holster and belt setup for carry, the gun is heavy at 38 oz unloaded.
I do have a paddle holster for a quick stuff in the waistband and go, if just running out to the store. For EDC I carry my SIG 1911 RCS, 4.25" barrel compact frame, but it cost me about $500. more than to PT1911 did.

A co-worker of mine has one and it is pretty nice. He bought it a year ago and the only problem he had with it were the plastic grips. I say go for it if the price is right.

I bought one last winter. It must have been a lemon, because it had several problems.

FTF, FTE, FTRB, etc. (Tried several brands of mags/ammo in it)
    Accuracy was below average.
Luckily, the place I bought it from has a 30 day return policy, so after messing with it for about 300 rounds, I took it back and received full credit including tax.

I bought another brand of 1911 which had no troubles and has above average accuracy.

    Just my opinion, Kev

EDITED to add: However, the one I have now cost $400 more than the Taurus.

So what do you think would be a good price for the model I selected??? I saw it on bud's gun shop:

Taurus 1911-ALR 45ACP 8RD RAIL ALUM for Sale at Buds Gun Shop $605.00

It is listed for $605 and that includes delivery.

Also can anyone recommend a holster/belt/magazine etc. (the rest of the gear)

    Thanks all!

    If I had $600 to spend, I would opt for a Springfield 1911 Mil-Spec 5" .45ACP Package on Buds for $565.

I agree 10,000%. These Springfields are made in USA, not Brazil. Keep the profits here in America.

However, as far as holsters go, any holster listed for a full size 1911 (and clones)

I like my IWB leather with stainless belt clip From S.D.Meyres Saddlery, Sweetwater, TX.

None of them are made in the U.S., some models are assemble here, all slides and receivers are forged in Brazil by IMBEL.

I also agree. Great gun outta the box. Only add on's I've done are a Ed Brown extended safety, Wilson drop-in beavertail safety, Wilson LW trigger and hammer. Had a GM (thats Gunners Mate for you civilians) friend do the work including a 4.5 lb. trigger job for free ()and the pistol eats everything and is very accurate. Even before the up grades it was a reliable gun and SA's customer service is second to none. JMO

It may be a fine gun but Taurus' customer service has a bad reputation.

I say go for it, you have to start somewhere. Once you get it you will be infected with 1911itis. You will be buying more later.
