With a budget of a grand that's no problem.Start with a G17 and allocate a $100 for good holster.This leaves me $400 to spend on a bug.I am leaning towards a snub nose revolver.
a used G19, a new NAA .22 mag./L.R. revolver, a used Taurus or smith snubby .357/.38
Related holsters of my choice, and ammo to boot.
(yes...I can still find these guns and items for $1000 and probably have enough left over for a nice lunch for two)

I wouldn't change anything, G-19, Comp-Tac holster, Warren Tactical sights, and a lot of practice ammo.
