According to the Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson, 3rd, Ed., that should be the .32 Hand Ejector Third Model, manufactured from 1917 to 1942.

271,531 were made, with the SN range being 263001 to 536684. Your SN would indicate 1917 or 1918, most likely 1917.

That was a very nice find. I'm impressed!

Oh, FWIW, the book says the NIB value is $700.00, value for excellent condition is $385.00.

Dont sell the .32 S&W Long too short. Factory loadings are kept artifically anemic due to some really old and weak guns they MAY be fired in.

The "war Dept",(wife) carries a M-60 daily loaded with 85gr jacketed hollow points in front of a HEALTHY dose of Green Dot. Some of those old guns have the cylinders bored out to accept the .32 mag ammo and handle them quite well. All-in-all a pretty wicked little round. Not a .38 special, but much better than a rock.

Mornin' gents and thanks for the kind comments.

I guess it was good enough for ol' Leroy Brown..."he's got a .32 gun in his pocketful of fun, he's got a razor in his shoe."

But then he came up short by the end of the song.

    I'm still digesting skypilot's and his uncle's hog-killing .32...

"but Uncle found it would penetrate a hog's skull clear back to the ham."

That's lots of pig meat to traverse.

But then my dad says that " down at Mount Calm, (Texas - his late 1920s/1930s childhood rural home) my grandfather always used the family Winchester Model 1890 rifle in .22 Short for hog killing chores at butchering time.
