M&P .45 Compact

So I picked up my .45 compact today. After the initial clean and lube I went to the range. Here are some observations after 100 rounds.

PROS:

1) Trigger is smoother and crisper OTB than my .40c was. Just slightly heavier than what I would consider optimum for the action. With very little over travel and a distinct if not crisp single reset.

2) Recoil is very manageable and muzzle flip is negligible.

3) The grip is the perfect length for my hand

CONS:

1) Trigger shape digs into my finger at the edge.

2) Some rough spots around the trigger guard are irritating.

3) Slide release is next to impossible to operate without shifting my grip considerably.

All in all I am extremely happy with it OTB. I may work on the trigger just a bit but will wait to see what a couple K rounds does for it. I will definitely be softening some spots and reshaping the trigger tip and edge.
I am shooting about 4" low at 7yds. I know it's me and not the sights as a good friend who is ten times the marksman as I am put every round on the X the first time he picked it up. I just have to figure out what I am doing different with it than I do with the .40 or my 1911s. I will try changing grips (I used the med. today) to see if it has any effect on my elevation, but I am probably anticipating the recoil and pushing the muzzle down when I squeeze.

BTW I should have mag sleeves available for these in short order.

Yes, very nice, have not been "approved" for sale in Mass yet. Have the 9c & 40c waiting to make the set complete. Keep us posted on your 45c, did you do the rebate? 2 mags or $50, started Oct. 1st.

I haven't sent the paper work in yet, but as two mags are still worth more than $50.00 I will be opting for two 10rnd M&P.45fs mags.

The M&P compact 45 is one of my favorite pistols. The gun just feels right and points well, so I shoot it well. I have 2 other M&Ps a full size and compact 9mm, but my 45 is I feel the best of the 3. Smith & Wesson is going to sell a lot of these.

I have the 9 compact,,,now I MUST get the 45 compact.
it took like 8 weeks for my free mags for the 9.

Got my 9c July 17, just got the mags yesterday.

I saw my first MP Compact last week at our local gunshop. It feels fantastic is balanced well and just looks great. There is one in my future probably before Jan. 20.

I'm very happy you like your new Compact .45--and also very happy you're about to make sleeves for it!

Glock trigger guards are irritiating and dig into my middle finger when I draw--I hate that. It's the Glock trigger guard shape and position for me, though.

I have a question about the sleeves--the same sleeve will work for both the 10rd and 14rd mags, right??

I hope that this will be the case. I have not held a 14 round mag in my hands yet, but it looks like my sleeves will fill the gap between the grip and the 14 round body excepting for the spot where the full size take down tool matches the 14 round adapter. I will look into making a separate sleeve for the 14's if it is absolutely necessary.

The real question is if the two different adapters (the integral adapter of the 14 round mag and my sleeves) will be a close a enough match in size and shape to be worth the effort. Due to the process that I use, I am very limited in my ability to match contours. I just got lucky with the original M&Pc grips. The .45 has a slightly different finished edge and will be just a bit different in matching up with the sleeves. This will be very minor in appearance but the 14 rounders may magnify the problem.

Nice gun! I was looking at the M&P when my final decision fell on the Glock-36...just seemed like a decision based on overall reliability over time...OMO
Both weapons seem like good choices.
