    Wife Wants PM9 or PM40 - Do I Trade Her SP101?

So the wife doesn't like carrying her SP101, stating it is too heavy by the end of the day. She also hasn't really liked shooting it since we had the Trijicon night sights put on.

She shoots my XD40SC very well, but also feels that it is too heavy for everyday carry. She has had 2 back surgeries, one for a fusion and the other to install SS rods front and rear.

So because of all this, we are looking into getting her the Kahr PM40 (if it isn't too snappy), otherwise the PM9.

The question is, should we trade in the SP101 towards the Kahr, or keep it as a backup? I have the XD40SC for my daily carry, and a XD40 Service for nighstand gun.

And before anyone recommends an S&W airweight, she shot one and was not a fan of the recoil at all.

    Thanks,

    Mike

Keep the 101. They seem to be getting more popular. I have the PM-9 and it is a great gun. I've never fired the PM-40, but I'd guess equally fine.

Personally I would keep it for a back up. Your not going to get anywhere what it is worth trading it. Other option would be private sale, you'll get closer to what it is worth that way.

Thanks guys, that is kind of the way I was leaning. I have read too many stories of people who sold/traded a gun, and then later regretted it.

I would keep the SP101. Of the PM9 and PM40, I would opt for the PM9 but you should let her, if possible, try them out. She may find that she doesn't like how they feel.

The PM9 is the way to go... and only you and she can answer the 101 debate.

We are headed to Hoffman's this evening to try the PM9 at their new indoor range. I will probably bring the SP101 just to see what they would offer in trade.

Personally I would keep it - just in case.

    Keep it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

DON'T REPEAT MY MISTAKE!!! I got rid of my Smith Revolvers when my job switched to Glocks. REGRET IT EVERY DAY, especially now with the "Lawyer Lock"Smiths being made now !! The SP101 is a fine revolver..throw it in the safe and you'll find a use for it in the future!!

I sold my SP-101 and IMHO, that was one of the dumbest things I ever did. I sure do miss it. I would not let it go.

Unless you either need the money or never plan to shoot the gun again, there's no reason to sell it.

You have to keep the SP101 since it's one of the best guns known to man. The PM9/PM40 are great, but it can be challenging for some to chamber the first round. You really have to pull on the slide all the way and release it hard.
If you don't mind me saying, the perfect small gun might be a Beretta Cheetah 85; as long as she agrees. Just a thought and not necessarily a good one.

I would definitely lean towards the PM9. The PM40 is very snappy. IMO, Kahr's really shine in 9mm.

I would keep the sp101 if at all possible, but that is up to you two. I would also recommend you trying the kahr out and probably the PM9, I have one and like the little gun a lot! It is however a little snappy in the 9mm, so I am sure the 40 would be more so and that may be an issue for her.

As for chambering the first round Kahr recommends using the slide release for the first round chambered, it is in the instruction manual with mine. I have had zero issues with my PM9 and carry it often when my glock is not easy to dress around, I just stick the PM9 in my pocket in the nemesis holster and head out.

We have decided to keep the SP101, I don't want to have regrets later. We have enough disposable cash to get the Kahr if we traded the 101, it is hard to wait until we have the rest of the cash on hand. I get antsy when it is time to buy a new toy, and don't like having to wait.
