    Kimber MIM parts

Hi folks. I'm looking to start a little project on my Ultra CDP II.

I wanna replace the MIM parts on it with forged parts.

I guess i'll start with the main housing spring.

I guess what i'm asking is whether there is a list of MIM parts so i'll know what to replace.

    Thanks for any input.

Common MIM parts on Mimber Firearms.

Slide stop, hammer, sear, disconnecter, mag catch, plunger tube, firing pin stop, thumb safety, ejector, beaver tail, mainspring housing.

    MIM

Is it really a problem? They do have lots of 1911s in service with some serious shooters. LAPD SWAT, USMC MEUSOC, LAPD SIS, FBI HRT. If they were failing at a high rate, you think you'd hear about it from the heavy hitters.

I'm a huge fan of the original Kimbers, and have a bunch. I'm yet to have a failure of any of those MIM parts. I have replaced some on a few guns that I've built up into custom shooters, simply because I prefer Ed Brown parts to work with. I can't speak of today's models, I won't buy one made after early 2000.

I have personally had a pretty big failure with a pretty big MIM part on a Kimber.. the thumb safety.

I know that some MIM parts can be just fine, excellent quality and just as tough as the next product out there but my faith in at least Kimber's MIM has waned.

The thumb safety on my Ultra CDP started to flex outward, over the slide so you could literally rack the slide with the safety engaged and would have snapped off at the base had I not replaced it in time.

I had a gunsmith install a Wilson Combat ambi safety and the problem was fixed.

I say, if you want to replace all of the MIM on your Kimber and have the time, energy and money to do it, all the power to you!

    Yep Scratchy, you got me!
I was in a training session with Scratchy when my highly customized Kimber Pro's extractor broke, extremely shaming me. It was, indeed, an Ed Brown Hardcore extractor I'd traded for the stock Kimber unit that never failed me! Good thing I had my ugly black stepchild along for the ride!

I believe if you check, the FBI/HRT use the Springfield Professional model.

Well, the MEU(SOC) still use a bunch of them, they only bought 100 Kimbers as "ICQB" pistols.

You sure those are Colts? I've seen some of those armory rooms, and most were a mish-mash of the best left-over parts!

The Springfield Professional is a Colt...it's just not a Colt that's in any way made by Colt.
