    This sucks!

So, I found this range here in San Antonio that allows you to draw from your holster and practice defensive shooting. Well, about 30 minutes into my shooting session, I draw my gun to fire and realize that my front site has come off my gun. I found the sight down in the dirt, but now I'm faced with a carry gun with no front sights until I can get to a gunsmith. A lot of people say that defensive shooting is just point shooting, and I'd like to think that I'm pretty good at point shooting, but this would be the ultimate test. I think that I'm going to carry my Glock 26 until I can get to a gunsmith. My question is, would you continue to carry a gun with no sights?

Yes. Sights are not a necessity, but I'd rather have them.

Try shooting it with no sights and see how you do. Sights are not required by law as far as I know and most small pistols have some pretty crude sights anyway. I'd also step up to some metal sights...the plastic Glock sights are a weak link.

I have metal Meprolite night sights on my Glock. I'm not sure how the sight came off but it concerns me.

Have some dirtbag approach you with a knive in a WalMart parking lot...he's 15' away and making some demands...I bet you won't even think about your sights.

Nice to have, not needed in 'close encounters'...

Shooting from retention? Errrr, what sights?

I took the "Surgical Speed Shooting" course with Andy Stanford a few years ago.
    Excellent training BTW.
At one point he had us cover the sights (front and rear) with masking tape.
    Didn't make much difference.
The Seecamp does not have sights at all and has a great following ???

NO. If by some far chance you HAVE to make a head shot that front sight will be mandatory for success. I practice constantly at 3-7 yards W/O sights and can punch a fist sized hole in the paper with no problem. Go back to 15 yards and it's a different story. Remember the front site is the most important one. I would get that sight repaired prior to carrying. JMO and I'm sticking to it.

Truth be known, I probably wouldn't carry a pistol without functional sights. I'd have to go to an alternative or fix it. I do keep spare factory sights for my Glocks and could replace one if necessary. Even if I had to get by with a plastic front sight with rear night sights would be better than missing the front sight alone. I just don't use broken tools.

If thats the only gun I've got, I would use it.

At normal self defense ranges it shouldnt be an issue.

Well I've decided that I'm going to carry my Glock 26 until I can get my front sight fixed. I know for a fact, because I kept shooting after the front sight fell off, that it doesn't make much difference at normal self defense ranges, but I think I'd just feel better with a fully functional gun.

Bexar Community Shooting Range just east of San Antonio is a good choice. It's an all outdoor range with handgun, rifle, and skeet/trap sections. No restrictions on combat-style practice. It's also quite affordable.

Metal Glock front sights usually attach with a small nut. It likely just loosened over time. At least it's easy to replace if you have the proper sized nut driver, so the fix should be DIY. Just make sure to drop some LocTite on there if you do.
