My new carry set-up w/ pics

    Hello all,

I'm somewhat new to the forums and I wanted to share my rig with all of you. I finally got my plastic about a week ago after a 160 day wait here in Texas. I got the run around from the DPS and the standard Hurricane Ike excuse letter. Finally, I got ahold of my state representative and he had them ship my license over-night UPS as soon as it was completed.

I picked up this Kimber CDP-II Compact about 10 days ago after waiting on it on special order for a month. I've been really pleased with it so far. I was kind of fearful based on what some have reported about Kimber's quality control, but my experience thus far has been quite flawless. I've put about 500 rounds through it all ready and I have yet to experience a single hiccup.

Truthfully, I was expecting a few FTE's or FTF's, but even hollow-points have fed without a single mishap. I basically threw away the stock Kimber mag and have not shot with anything but Wilson Combat mags so that may explain my good fortune.

Obviously, I changed the grips. I hope I don't get flamed for them. I just have a personal preference for something with a bit of flash. I think it looks tasteful compared to the 3 toned look with the stock wooden grips (maple-ish color).

I've been carrying in a Galco IWB rig that I have been really pleased with. The fit is spot on and I can really conceal this relatively large pistol with ease. The compact is an officer's gripped 1911 with the 4" barrel that you see on the Pro model.

Thanks for reading and I look forward to your comments!

    Cheers

Awesome ! Yeah, I like the grips, gives it FLASH. Got a desire to "pimp" out a revolver myself (okay, just ONE). ;) .

Very nice. Nothing wrong with the grips!!

Thanks guys! The wait was painful but well worth it. I think the compact size is perfect for me. It's still quite accurate yet a bit easier to conceal than the full size version.

I think the grips are going to stay. lol

Well the grips aren't my style but common, it's your gun and I think it's great that you've fixed it up to suit you!!!

I think most of us would like one "barbque" gun! Personally I'd like a revolver tricked out by Gemini Customs!

So keep her pretty and enjoy shooting her! And you should probably be careful not to bang up against something with those grips

Nice pistol!! I like the grips as well, just enough flash. You hear alot of people say that Kimbers need a "break in" But, I've yet to see one that did. Great choice!!

Just fyi for everyone: the grips are not real mother of pearl. I got them from grips4guns dot com for a great price. The fit was spot on. I'm still somewhat amazed at how well they fit. I think the material is acrylic but I can't be sure. It is a much more friendly price point than real mother of pearl.

Thanks for all of the compliments! I really appreciate it.

I just need to get to the range more. I know now that my sidearm is not the weakest link. I need to put some time in to catch up to this thing.
