Should I trade my XD for a used Sig?

I was at my local gun shop and saw a used p229 for 565 and p228 with minor scratches for 545 both in .40 and also a p220 in 9mm for 495 and was wondering if I traded my XD .45 service would it be worth it in the trade

Do you not like the XD?

You're not going to get an even trade on the XD, you'd be lucky to get $350 for it unless you're in good with the shop.

Personally I don't think it would be worth it in my opinion.

Unless you really don't like the XD and really like Sigs, then I could almost see it, but if you're not all that familar with the Sigs and like the XD, I'd keep it and save the $$$ for when you're feeling experimental, take it from a guy who knows about trading the right guns for the wrong ones.

The guns you're listing aren't that much smaller.

If you want to axe the XD, sell it yourself and you'll get more money out of it.

At the gun store I frequent you would get $200-225 for the XD if it was in decent shape. Thats the answer to your question. You mention that you are interested in trading it for a Sig as "I want something smaller to carry". The Sig will not be smaller to carry. A G23 is a good choice ( getting smaller ) but if you are looking for a compact .40 and want a Glock look at the G27.

i'm one to say from experience any gun you use as a trade in, you'll be lucky
to see 3/4 if not 1/2 it's value.traded an xd-9 for a g-27 and what a disapoitment the trade-in value amount was. oh well, live and learn.
good luck in your desicion, but i'd shop around around for the best dael
    if you can.

If you're looking for something smaller to carry, get an XD SC or do the Grip Chop on your Serivice model and create a Compact.

I went the other way.... started with the XD 9sc and then bought my XD 45c. What kind of shape is your XD Service in??

I would take a close look at the P228 in .40. The P228 was never chambered from the factory in .40. That may be an early P229 or if it is a P228 it should be in 9mm.
The 9mm P220 is not very efficient for its size, but would be a rather soft shooting pistol. It conceals easier than my P226 but is bigger and heavier than my P225. I think the P228 is about the perfect balance between size and capacity.
That being said, I am not the original owner of any of my Sigs. My P225 is a CPO the others are "used". Cosmetically mine are less than perfect. Functionally they have been flawless. I didn't buy any safe queens.

I have no first hand experience with XD's but I don't think you will be disapointed.

Someone is giving you some bad info. If I recall correctly the P228 was only made in 9mm, and the P220 only in .45 ACP.

If the shop is telling you those calibers on the 228 & 220, I'd check the P229 barrel and make sure it's really 40 S&W. Or, probably better, find a new gun shop!

Actually the P220 was made in 9mm mostly for european police agencies. When they came out with the P226 for the US military trials they dropped the 9mm P220s and sold them in the U.S. in .45 acp and .38 Super for a while, then dropped the .38 Super. The 9mm and .38 were not particularly big sellers in the US.
