Buying my first gun ever, leaning towards a Glock 36

Im leaning towards this gun because of its size and ease of use, as well as the .45 ammo. Ive seen alot of mixed reviews about the gun jamming or misfeeding and something to do with the slide. Which manufacture date would be a good one to purchase? I found one from june 07' on an auction site, would this be a good purchase?

I was also checking out the smith & wesson 908

I believe that you will find the difficulties with the G-36 were years ago...I have a Glock-36 and it has been flawless.
It has the best grip of all the Glocks.
Didn't it just call your name when you picked it up?

I think some of the issues you have heard about were cured shortly after the reports. Maybe a few years after it's 1999 debut? Just a wild guess here, but I'd figure if you found a G36 post 2005 manufacture, those should be good to go. In a way, I sort of wished I would have gone for the G36 instead of the G30 when I did. I might still have a Glock in 45acp. Several members here have the G36 and love it of course. I haven't heard or read about any hitches with the currently owned G36's.
I'm sure some of the current G36 owners would reply here. But here are a couple of things to check in order to help remove any doubt from your mind, or belay the question you have.
#1. Call Glock and ask. 1-770-432-1202 (be sure and ask them to mail you any free stuff like a calendar, pins, or stickers)
#2. Check extensively here, or Google your question. The Glock FAQ

I wouldn't recommend the G36 for a first gun, but that's a different story. I have a G36 and I'm loving it so far. It's currently in a competition with my XD9SC for carry duty when my CHP arrives.

Yeah so far i have googled the serial number dates, and found out the one i am bidding on was made in june of 07'. I just wanted to make sure because i have no idea how to fix or troubleshoot anything on a gun so I really need something reliable that I can just load and shoot.

Auction site huh? Well, sight unseen....................plenty of places to pick up factory parts for the Glock pistols and magazines if by the off chance something doesn't work as it should. I didn't see any hint as to whether this pistol was new or used. If it's new, you would be the original purchaser and the factory warranty would be good. Have you ever picked up a G36 and held it...tried it out for fit and feel? Stone set on the 45acp for carry in compact form? A lot of factors should play a part in your decision. Way too many to explain here. It's a personal thing.

Same as I wouldn't recommend a G27 for a first pistol, but it is my EDC for me.

Word of advice....get rid of that link before someone outbids you! Edit, edit, edit!
Nothing wrong with buying used! I've done it many times.

That is, until you buy your G36.

    Yeah...well, kick a guy when he's down!
You know, I never really took a hard look at the G36. I admit maybe I should have. Capacity has never really been an issue for me and always a fan of the 45. It all boils down to what was actually available to me at the time, and for some reason, the G36 wasn't on the horizon. Even Captain Kirk and the Enterprise can't mess with the time-space continuum. It might change the history of the world for all we know! I could never live with myself knowing I had caused a worldly disaster.

    I have a G36 and I do like it
As for any trouble with it ,after 200 rounds it
has stove piped one round .
My other glocks have never done this.
I was fast firing it and did not lock my wrist
I think the G36 is the only Glock that I've
seen that is sensitive to limp wristing.
I am beginning to believe that this may be what
other owners have seen and just did not
believe thy were wimp wristing the gun because their
other glocks did not do that when fired that way.

I have a G23 - a compact .40 - and I love it. Light and easy to carry - and gives plenty of shock value and stopping power.
Trying to leave as large a carbon footprint as possible.

Try out a Sig, or other brands... make sure you drop you $ on something you want and will keep
