    Which Kimber would you choose?

Ok, I need a little help here.... I am in the market to buy a Kimber Ultra but go back and forth on which one I like the most. The choices I would consider are as follows: (all ULTRA's) The basic Ultra carry, Tactical, SIS, CDP, and the Raptor. I am leaning towards the CDP and the Raptor but could be persuaded to one of the others based on the responses. Please help me with your opinions and why. Thanks for the help.

forget to mention this will be my new primary carry gun.

I'm lusting after a Kimber Tactical Pro II myself!

I love my CDP II...I have two of them. The Ultra is my EDC...the Compact is fairly new and is waiting to go for 'walks'...

I love the smoooooooth lines of the CDP, and she shoots flawlessly.

Of course, the Ultra hides very well.

    Stay armed...with a CDP...stay safe!

I carry a Kimber Pro CDP on occasion and I love it. However a Ultra CDP would be a better carry option because of its smaller dimensions. I would love to get one sometime down the road. I have Crimson Trace laser grips on my Pro CDP. If you want to get those you have to get a bobbed safety lever for the right side (CDP come with an ambi safety, I think the Raptor does too.) I ordered one from Kimber for about 20-25 bucks and had a local gunsmith install it for another 20-25 bucks. So if you are considering laser grips in the future, you might consider a Kimber model that doesn't have an ambidextrous safety.

I wish I knew how to use a poll.... Currently 2 for Tactical and 2 for CDP
Zero for the raptor? I thought for sure a lot would like the Raptor.

    Thumbs up LOVE Them Kimbers

    Hello Sporty79,

I carry a Raptor and the misses carries a CDPII. Both have been

totally reliable and surprisingly accurate. I work in an extremely hostle

enviorment (desert-like..South FL gravel pit) so I appreciate the finish

and robust weight of the Raptor. Momma's CDPII is just too pretty

to expose to my working conditions. Other than the difference in

weight they are both tack drivers. (even with cheap Wolf pills)

IMHO, you won't go wrong with either choice.

I don't remember which ultras have the steel frame and which are alloy (other than the alloy Ultra Carry II, which I have), but I would have to say go with one of the alloy framed ultra if you intend on it becoming your every day carry piece.

The more comfortable the EDC is, the more you will enjoy carrying it.
All the various Ultras are nice, but I do love my alloy Ultra Carry, and if you are not going to be putting thousands of rounds on it, the non-steel frame will not be a problem (I have about 5,000 rounds on my UC II and it runs like a champ).

My vote is for the CDP Compact.

I have had zero malfunctions straight out of the box. Changed the grips to suit my style and I have enjoyed every minute that I have it IWB 2 o'clock.

I'd buy the CDP first, then the Ultra then maybe the Tac. I'm more into the go and dont care about the show.

For me, the Ultra CDP II is the ideal EDC. Accurate, reliable, lightweight and concealable. After trying several different grip options, I've stuck to the half-checkered slimline Alumagrips. Typically carry in a Tucker Answer.

A Desert Warrior is my primary home defense handgun, fitted with Kimber rosewood grips and an Insight M3X.

I carry one of these with rosewood grips. Kimber - Continuing The Legacy

The lighter weight of the alloy frame really does make a difference on the hip.

Given the OPs listed choices, I'd go with the SIS Ultra, no stupid Swartz safety, still has a steel frame, has all the other options I like: checkering, night sights, etc.

I hate the cocking serrations, but I guess I could get over it...

I have a Raptor II - all steel was one of the requirements for me and a 1911, and I love it. Very accurate, very reliable.
