I would like to hear feedback here. as some of you know, I have been bitten by the 1911 bug, and would like one of these to tinker with. Take dis/assemble, modify etc. without using an expensive starting piece. any feedback would be appreciate it.

Not in 45acp but in 38 super And it is a good gun No problems with it so far course it is a little rouger than a colt/springfield some tool marks etc etc ..
Only parts that wont interchange are the grip screws but you can change out the grip bushings so as to use normal grip screws.
i think these would be a great pistol to fool around with becuse of the price..

+1 to what Bud said.
I used my .45 ACP for a bit of 3 gun and some Limited 10 in USPSA. They are basic GI style guns but mine ran every bit of ammo (including some "junk" factory stuff I had) with no hiccups.

One thing that gives the RIA a leg up is a lowered and flared ejection port vs the GI Springer..
Also the prices i have seen.. i paid right around 275-300 for the RIA and the WWII or misspec srpingers go from 475-575
