Chance to get S&W 5903 Stainless Steel 9MM. Yes or No?
Hi All-
I have a chance to get a S&W 5903 9mm from a friend, at what will probably be a good price, somewhere in the neighborhood of $200-$250.
Does anyone have experience with this model? Anything I should be looking for? He is the original owner, and the gun was seldom used. Although I already have a CZ-75 9mm, I thought this would be a nice addition to my collection. Any thoughts are welcome!

Get it.. I think the 5903 has an alloy frame. I've owned several 3rd generation Smiths over the years and have had good luck with them.

Depends...do you like using moon clips?

Aren't moon clips for revolvers?

Aside from thier newer M&P's, the 3rd generation Smith's are probably the best auto's they've made. +1 for artz, that's a good price for one in good shape.
Moon clips are for wheel guns, maybe he was confused on the model #, I think the S&W Model 547 Revolver was 9mm, but it didn't require moon clips. I actually can't think of any S&W 9mm wheel guns other than that one, but they might be some.
Some S&W .45acp and 10mm wheelguns use moon clips though.

I just bought a 5903 about a month ago for $300 and felt it was a good price. 3rd generation S&W's are top quality. BTW the 5903 is an alloy frame; the 5906 is the stainless steel frame. The 5906 is indestructible, but it is a HEAVY beast.

No, moon clips are for revolvers.
This is an auto-pistol.

I really like these guns. The Police trade ins were going for more than $250. Great gun.
