I'm pondering trading in my XD Subcompact. I Like the gun but I used to have a 1911 and I trying to decide if I should trade in my XD for a Rock Island Armory 1911. I like the 1911 style a lot more than the XD although I know the XD is loosely based on the 1911 but I still like the all metal frame. There is a gun show this weekend were I live so I'm thinking about doing it then. Any suggestions would be welcome.
It's better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it!
You'll typically take a loss if you trade-in. I've found that I usually regret trading in a gun to fund another.
Shadowman ... I would suggest you might want to consider a SA 1911 micro-compact (if you want a .45) or EMP (if you prefer to stay with a 9mm). You'll probably have to add some money in the trade, but both are great carry guns (plus you get to keep the great SA service). Just a thought ... Merry Christmas and good luck with your decision.
I was taught to respect my elders! The problem is, I'm having a much harder time finding them these days .
You always LOSE MONEY on a trade in. Keep it and just save and buy the new gun. I had a friend who was always trading one "toy" (and I'm not saying guns are toys here) for the next "toy". Surfboard for motorcycle for rifle for dunebuggy for motorcycle for ...............In the end my friend had one "toy" and had spent thousands to "trade". Taught me something to watch him over the years. Yeah, I spent too but I got lots of stuff in the gun safe.
Keep it and get the 1911...you almost always regret traded guns......I know that I have.

yes, I have also traded only to wish I saved and baught a new.
After 'bout 4 trades and eating several hundred $$.... What I buy I keep.
Everyone else posted that you'll lose money trading in. I certainly agree, but if you never plan to use the gun, why not put it up for private sale? Sure, you'll lose a few bucks but FAR FAR less than a trade in, and you can put it towards the next purchase.
If you like the gun but just want the other sooner....keep & save :)

keep it and buy the other.

The XD-SC is an excellent carry weapon. I found that mine was a lot more comfortable after getting a holster I really liked. I've got a K&D Dakota Defender for mine and it's a breeze. I find the .40 S&W is a handful in that small of a piece but is ultra reliable and accurate. I've got 1911s as well but for carry, I prefer my XD-SC. The polymer frame and smaller size make it great. At the range, I prefer my 1911 every time but you should consider all aspects before you trade in a gun that you can't get back.

my wife and i both have a sa xd9sc. we love them. good cc. good at range. what more could we want
I sold my XD9SC about a year ago and regret it. If you can, keep it and find the funds elsewhere. The XD9 sub-compact is an excellent sidearm, albeit a bit too wide to conceal well.
Just my $.02

I have purchased two guns from people in the gun store parking lot because the people were dissatisfied with what the trade in value was.... I would either start a collection or put it up for private sale.
I believe in gun control...... Thats why I use TWO hands.
