    Neat animation. I sure am glad I don't have 2 of the things in the "safety" section...worthless lock mechanism and I WANT my gun to shoot without a mag inserted.

    Lock mechanism is optional - doesn't come with the over the counter ones I've ever seen (mine didn't come with it). Mag disconnect - you can have your dealer order without this - I like mine on my duty gun.
    The M&P Compacts don't have the mag disconnects - Might can order with this - I don't know.

    My M&P9 compact came with a mag disconnect, doesn't really matter to me all that much.

    My compact came with the mag disconnect, being in Mass it's required. I can get it changed but have decided to leave the disconnect installed.
    If you're not in Mass and you decide to order a M&P with a mag. disconnect from your dealer make sure he doesn't order a Mass. compliant pistol. It'll come with a 10lb trigger.
