This is just a cool little story I would like to share with you guys and gals with regard to how I became a member of the XD45 club. This will be my main carry once it is tried and trusted. I got my concealed carry license a few days ago and have wanted to trade one of my pistols (Springfield GI micro) in on one I have been eyeing. A Springfield XD45. I went to the gun shop where I bought it and asked about trade in value and the guy gave me a number that was insulting to me, so I just said thanks but no thanks and started out the door. Then this guy that was at the counter, another customer, stops me and asked what it was I was interested in selling. So I stopped and showed him and we chatted for a minute about it and he showed a little interest in it and asked me to meet him outside after he made his purchase and I agreed. He bought a grip or something for his wife and then he came out. While I was waiting I told my wife, heck lets just go and she encouraged me to wait for the guy just to see what he wanted. It turns out that this guy, I still don't know his name or anything, has been looking for the pistol I had as his friend had got one and he really liked it. We talked for a few more minutes about it and then he asked what I wanted for it and I told him to make and offer and we could go from there. He told me he would give me 400 bucks for it (I only paid 425 2 years ago, though it is like new I only shot about 5 or 6 rounds out of it) and I said that would be fine. He peeled off 400 dollars and we made the deal right in front of this place. I went back in and got the pistol I have been wanting. I never am in the right place at the right time but the planets must be aligned for me today!!! What a freakin story...I am so stoked I can't believe it.

I usually try not to break the law.......and when I do I don't tell everybody about it!

I would enjoy the thread while it is here the mods will prob shut u down...discussing illegal activity is verboten.

#6 ·
It depends on the state (and I have no knowledge of Georgia law) but here in Virginia that would have been legal. So long as he didn't have knowledge the man was going to commit a felony with the pistol, its legal. A bill of sale can be attained for future documentation, but its not necessary.

Welcome to the XD club. My XD9 has been my EDC for nearly 2.5 years now.

There was no law broken. It was a legal face to face sale. There is no requirement to do FFL between two private parties within the same state.

Welcome to the XD community!! I have an XD45 also and I love it. I want more XD's in the future. Probably an XD40 is next.

To those of you who made comments about this being illegal. If you know that for a fact, it would probably have been better to handle that by PM'ing a moderator and/or PM'ing the original poster.
If you don't know for a fact that his actions were illegal based on the laws of HIS state...you're out of line.

Let's get back on topic...

Froggy, congrats on the good deal, I'm not an XD fan but I hope it works for you.

Thanks for replying everyone. I guess I shouldn't assume everyone in our great nation has the same rights as we enjoy here in Georgia. Next time I will be sure to spell that out, sorry I am new here. I now know there are at least several states I could never reside in. thanks again. Off to the range to see if I will be as satisfied with this deal as I think I will be!

Congratulations on your XD. That's a great pistol!:congrats:

Congrats on the XD45, that's one of the pistols I want as my EDC! Did you get the Service or Compact model? You'll have to let us know how it shoots when you get a chance.

It is the service model, 4" with the HC mags and it came with a rail mounted Safariland flashlight as well. 14 rounds of 45 ACP, I am still in awe.
I just got back from the XD's first trip to the range. I am a huge fan of this pistol! I shot very well with it, no flaws in feeding and no FTEs. I shot the first couple of mags with just 230g FMJ and then tried 10 rounds of gold dots. Flawless! I do see what others have said about the sights, with regards to the front blade not filling up the notch but this is definitely not a deal breaker. I love it and feel like I made a fantastic deal yesterday. The flashlight is a great added extra bonus, it is extremely convenient to use, bright and will be a welcomed addition in the roll of home defense. Over all I am totally pleased with the deal. I would like suggestions for a comfortable cc holster for this weapon as it is my new best friend and will go everywhere (possible) with me.

I don't know any of my local gun stores who would offer me top dollar for my trade-ins. They are a business and want to make as much $$ as possible on trade-ins.

I carry my XD45acp in a CompTac Minotaur and love it. It is very comfortable for me, however, I have yet to try many other holsters. There may be others more comfortable but I am not unhappy with my C-Tac M-Tac one bit.

I could not get past about 5 posts. WHAT IS GOING ON HERE? Are we talking about Communist Russia? Nazi Germany? The free nation I live in I can sell my property to anyone at anytime anywhere I damn well please. That fascist and socialists have not yet taken over despite of what they may think.

If you are aware of laws that control the sale of private property in your state please post them. I do not believe there are any. Not even in the socialist states of Illinois and California Otherwise, lets not support the anti self defense fanatics that would disarm us all. Lets not do the dirty work for the hysterical anti self defense fanatics by spreading their ignorant malicious, lies and propaganda,. We are not fear driven morons here, that live by sky is falling myths. We live in the real world, by laws not lies myths and propaganda spread by the bed wetters.

Most all of my guns have been bought face to face with no state record of them. That is how I prefer to buy my guns. You do as you wish but do not use misinformation, ignorance or lies to manipulate someone into arming themselves solely with state sanctioned registered outlets. That is not said to disparage any gunshops or outlets. They provide a great service to use all

That said congrats on your buy Froggy. Looks like you are living right. Test than load up with some 230 gr. Federal HST and you have a rock solid reliable effective SD weapon unsurpassed by any handgun available IMO. My XD.45 has proven to be the best SD weapon I have had in 40 years of shooting bar none. I have had an do have prettier guns even more accurate guns but none are better more reliable proven concealable self defense weapons. An added plus is that this is the only compact .45 I have ever had that is fun to shoot. If I may what did you give for your XD, you didnt say

I believe both California and Rhode Island forbid FTF or private firearm sales (they must be run through and FFL). I want to say NJ likely has a similar law, but I haven't looked for it recently.

Thanks Longrider! I feel the same way. I appreciate the post and am glad to see that there are indeed others who understand what is at stake these days especially with regards to the second amendment. I payed 549 for my XD it is the service model, 4" and as an added extra bonus (to me, I didn't want it when I thought it was and add on) I got a Safariland flashlight and rail mount in the box as well. they were just asking 519 for the tactical 5" but I wanted the shorter version and I feel pretty secure with this weapon so far. Flawless at its first outing to the range and of course 14 rounds of 45 ACP is reassuring to say the least. Thanks again for the post.

I'm a big fan of the XD's, and I've had my Bi-tone XD45/4" and XD9SC for several years without a FTF in either one of them... ever. It's hard not to like a pistol like that.

I'll also note that the NRA Rifleman magazine did a big write-up on the XD's (again) this month in the Feb/09 issue.
I think they liked it.

Hey brotha! Welcome to the club! I have an XD40 that I love. it's my primary carry for now but will hopefully get something a little smaller for summer carry. If you've got any questions on it I'm part of a forum called XDTalk Forums - Your HS2000/SA-XD Information Source! and it's a great source of info. They talk many other things than just the XD's as well.

I'm surprised how many people just flipped out about your sale. Know laws before you start flaming people!
