Went to a gun show today, came home with...

    A Smith & Wesson 642!

I went to a gun show which was at a High School (yeah of all places, they have gun shows at High Schools in Alaska), and I must say it was one of the better gun shows I have attended. They had plenty of AK-47s, AR-15s, single action revolvers, shotguns, you name it. There wasn't so much flea market type stuff which was nice to see for a change. Anyway, I sold my Glock 17 to a friend of mine, who then turned around and traded it for a Glock 34 with Crimson Trace laser. I used the money he gave me to search for a J-Frame revolver or a 12 gauge shotgun for HD. I ended up buying a slightly used 642 for $395. The only bad part is, it is one with the lock, but I haven't heard many bad things about the lock engaging under fire.

It just seems kind of funny to me that schools are considered "gun free zones", and yet they are able to hold gun shows where there are tons of guns and ammo, and people walking around the property with guns LOL! However there weren't any mass shootings, go figure!

Good buy. The 642 is great for pocket carry, and with Speer Gold Dot short barrel 135 +P you will be good to go.

Mine also has the lock. Don't worry about it. Just go out and enjoy the gun.

Great little gun. Enjoy it. Now go get some snap caps and break the trigger in. Squeeze a couple thousand times and it smooths out the trigger nicely.

    Outstanding.

A snubbie is one great big glaring hole in my collection. One which I need to fill one of these days. Well done!

The 642 in a Nemesis or Mika is my "always" gun. If I'm not carrying my XD40 strong side in my MTAC, I've got the 642 in my strong side pants pocket, with a speed strip in the left rear pocket. Like so many others, I use the NYPD load of Speer Gold Dot 135 gr +p. I have speed strips stoked with both the NYPD load and the FBI load of 158 gr LSWCHP +p. I prefer the Remington load in that because the lead seems softer than the others, and from what I've read, expands more readily from the short barrel snub.

Honestly, everyone that carries concealed owes it to themselves to own a J Frame. While it may be a little larger than the LCP or P3AT, it's more powerful, and rounded shape works well for pocket carry. It may not be a service sized bottom-feeder with 12-18 rounds, but I never feel underarmed.

Now, off to church (with the 642). Cheers!

Great find. I will sometimes carry a Mod 60 J-frame when I am "not" carrying. Congrats on your new inventory.

Nice gun but you could have bought a new one for that price. Paid $392 for this one.
