    New, to me, 1911

This time a wide body. I have been looking for a Para Ordnance P-16 .40 for about 6 months now, ever since a guy I know offered to trade one but backed out.
Well, I finally talked him out of it.

I have already ordered a barrel from Jarvis chambered in 10mm and a boat load of Ed Brown parts for this new toy. (Tubby 45's 10mm conversion thread inspired me.)
I will of course post an update when the project is complete.

Well I spoke too soon. I just got an email from Jarvis telling me they don't make a 10mm barrel anymore.

I am on the hunt again.

Might want to give Nowlin a call, I can't remember of the ramp is the same as Para, but they do have ramped 10mm barrels.

Well, Nowlin was strike three for me (Thanks anyway JD) so I called Ed Brown and ordered one of their last remaining .40 para ramped barrels. I will just have to have it reamed to 10mm.
This project sure looked easier on paper.

For a barrel you can try Irv Stone at Bar-Sto, or Will Schuemann; Both guys will make custom barrels to order for a reasonable price. I say this because I had Irv Stone make a bull barrel for my Springfield Champion 2 years ago, after trying to find somebody that made one. It was a made to order job, because the Champion is an odd-sized 1911 to begin with, being halfway between an officer and commander model.

Good luck to you in your search, but I am willing to bet if you called those guys they could make up what you need likety split.....

Thanks, if the guys at Ed Brown fail me I will try them next.

Edit: I ordered from Ed Brown less than an hour ago and I have already gotten an email notification from UPS that the barrel will be at the house on Monday. Talk about service....
Now which barrel do I send off to have modified the stock Para or Mr. Browns?

The 10mm conversion sounds very cool! Just a question from someone who honestly doesn't know, will the frame of the PO put up with the additional punishment of the 10mm round over time as well? Don't hit me, I'm trying to learn something here.
Anyway, I hope to see a thread on the conversion when it starts!

Hey I'm learning too, and yes the frame will hold up. I have been told to upgrade the slide stop, put in a full length guide rod, and change to a 20# recoil spring.
I have learned that this conversion can't be done with the LDA Para's the slide on the LDA has a notch cut out for the double action trigger system and that weakens the slide enough to cause problems or at least that's what I have been told. I'm not the expert on 1911's that some of the members here are but if you search the internet you will find alot of info.

Here is the finished project. Sorry it took so long to finish but I didn't want to rush my smith.

This gun shoots like a dream, it's stout for sure but very managable.
The recoil isn't near as bad as I was told, actually I think it's more comfortable to shoot than my G23. The recoil is like a ++P .45 and the report is massive, hearing protection is a must. I'm very impressed with the accuracy of the gun so far, believe it or not I was able to hit a 2 foot square piece of steel at over 100 yards off hand, and no I didn't hit it every time.
I will try to do a more precise range report later this week, weather and wife permitting.

Pic one is the total package now with the .40 barrel and spring on display.
Pic two is well... not something you want to read up close and in person.

    Thanks for looking
