Congrats, I have my eye out for the heavier brother the 649, I like a all SS gun as well as the option to fire in SA. Give us a range report.

Odd - I don't think it's that good. I grew up knowing too many people who were good shots, and still do - people who would be putting them into the center rings at that range. I'm just happy if I can hit a can or make it jump because of the dirt nearby flying at that range with any of my regular carry guns (up to a 4" barrel).

My point was that the snubby can be a more accurate weapon than most people give it credit for - it just takes practice.

    Cheers!

The snubby pic thread did me in. I couldn't resist.

I purchased a 642 yesterday with a basic #3 uncle mikes pocket holster and some speed strips and loaders to try out. The uncle mikes was all they had and should work OK for now but I will be ordering something better.

Not to thread highjack, but I've seen one reply for a "Galco Ankle Glove". Does anyone have anymore recommendations for a Ankle Holster?

Alessi makes the best but they're hard to get. I've had both and the Ankle glove is just fine, especially with a light weight J Frame.

Also... one more vote for Mika!

Really appreciate all the responses--guess the jackets are custom made. Just shot the 642 today with Winchester 130 gr range ammo and though it had a pretty noticeable 'felt recoil' (if I'm using that term correctly) I really think it's perfect. I find that I am a decent shot (mostly within a 3-4 inch radius or so) at 7 yards and was able to control the trigger pull well IMO.

Now after starting this thread and looking around the site I have decided the following are essentials and are now on order: Speer Gold Dot 'Short barrel' 135 gr +p, Mika square pocket holster, and a Hogue grip.

Ironically, the guy next to me on the firing line today had a Ruger LCP which I decided against in favor of purchasing a 642. Less round capacity, but much better projectile--that's why I got a speed strip!

Overall an excellent revolver that will do great service as a pocket carry in the balmy south Texas summer
