I found a box of .40 black talons for a good price. That's what I have loaded now.

I put all the same bullet type in my magazines.

If I need more penetration than what my bullets will do, I brought the wrong gun.

45 ACP: Federal 230 Grain +P JHP (HST)
    40 S & W: Federal 180 Grain JHP (Classic)
    9 MM: Federal 115 Grain +P+ JHP (9BPLE)
357 Mag: Remington 125 Grain SJHP (Full House Load)
38 SPL: Gold Dot 135 Grain +P JHP

Those are my "defensive" loads. If I need hardball ammo, like I said before, I brought the wrong gun. Since, as Clint Smith is fond of saying, "Every bullet has a lawyer attatched to it," I don't want to use something that is over-penetrative and possibly cause injury or death to innocents beyond the target medium.

The only place I would consider using hollow points is in a place like New Jersey, where hollow points are forbidden for carry.

I mix up rounds... In my M4. For that I load up Federal 50gr HPs and the last 5 rounds are tracers. This way I know a mag change is coming. Thats my last line of defense at home though. Just in case the **** really hits the fan and my home starts looking like the last shootout scene in Scarface.

I carry Winchester Ranger 127gr +P+ in my Carry 9 and my M&P9 and 110gr +P DPX in my Snubby when I am out and about.

Sig 228 - Remmington Golden Sabres in 9mm and spare magazine. Extra magazine (10 round PC version) in glove box with FMJ for road-kill mercy killing. Deer are hit too ofter around here and just left to die.

147gr JHP all the way for CCW. Sometimes an extra mag of FMJ in case I get in a fight with a big vehicle, but I worry about over penetration and rounds zinging off of curbs and bricks in town. I would have to be pretty desperate to use FMJ in an urban or neighborhood environment.

Nope. If the tip gets clogged with cloth or whatnot, the JHP's going to perform like a FMJ.

I keep 230 grain Speer Gold Dot's for the .45's, and 124 grain's for my 9mm's. All are standard pressures, no +p or +p+ for me. I prefer to have less muzzle flash and a faster follow up shots.

In my 1911s, magazine and weapon loaded with 230 gr HSTs. I personally don't like the idea of mixing rounds. But that's just my opinion.

New carry gun is a Colt Defender lightweight in .45

Right now I am carrying Winchester White box.

Reason being the gun is brand new and I ran a total of 80 round of WWB through it Saturday without a FTF or FTE. I first ran 40 rounds of WWB without a failure at all. Then put in the 6 rounds of Hornady though it (all I had extra from my full size 1911 while leaving me a full mag to keep) and I had one failure to feed correctly on the last round in the mag from this. Then I went back to ball ammo (WWB) and fired off 40 more rounds that fed flawlessly. All while particularly dirty at this point.

So until I can break it in more and try some more Hornady or try some other JHP and find what it likes, I will carry it with FMJ because it likes it and it makes a big hole too.
