    I Need Practice Ammo!

    At Ammo To Go I found 1000rds - 9mm Brown Bear 115gr. FMJ for$174.95

They claim... This ammo is manufactured by JSC Barnaul Machine-Tool Plant in Russia. The Barnaul plant is considered the premier ammunition plant in Russia, and they supply the majority of the ammo to the Russian military.

    Anybody know about this stuff?

Steel cased, berdan primed? I guess I do know a little bit about those....I only use that kind of stuff in my AK-47 since it was designed to eat it. Nothing else I have will ever see the steel cased stuff. That's just my opinion. I may pay a bit more up front for any brass cased, boxer primed ammo, but I can recycle those, and I like to have a smooth, trouble free day at the range when I shoot. I also like keeping my firearms in good condition, and going as easily as I can on them and extending their longevity.

Pricewise this would end up approx. $195.00-$200.00 with freight.
Walmart has Blazer Brass for $180.00/thou plus sales tax in your state.
Either a wash for cost or the Blazer is cheaper and better and available locally.
And you don't have to buy 1,000 rounds to get that price.

    Locally I get Sellier & Bellot 115gr FMJ 9mm for $10/box

    Clean, brass case, and accurate.

range ammo shouldn't be very expensive for something quality

I suggest a RCBS Rockchucker for practice ammo. Not only is it cheaper in the long run, but handloading is quite a bit of fun once you get going.

As far as the Brown Bear ammo, if it works in your gun(s), it should be fine. I wouldn't buy a case unless you know it works though.

I've found Blazer to be poor quality and lots of tarnished cases and bullets. I dunno why so many people think it's good...maybe a bad shipment my wal-mart got.

I have been through a ton of it. Functions fine and accuracy is good. Brass and copper naturally tarnish. It has no real effect on their structure or function.

IMHO, do not buy this ammunition if you can afford to pay more for some made here in the USA. I bought 500 rounds of Wolf ammo (also made in Russia and is primarily used for AK's as I now understand it) and one of them was overcharged and destroyed my Glock 23: http://www.defensivecarry.com/vbulle...situation.html

I'm convinced the problem was not the firearm but the round it was firing and have learned my lesson for sure. Just figured I'd pass it along for your consideration

OK, no Russian ammo. But I've been to every Walmart in the Albuquerque Metro area and there's no 9mm!

I to would invest in a reloading set up, great hobby and the cheapest way to shoot. I hate how dirty most cheap ammo tends to be!!

Regarding ammo at WalMart; What’s up with no ammo at WalMart’s

I noticed our local store last week had NO and I repeat NO pistol ammo. And even the rifle ammo they had in stock was only the expensive stuff.

Are they discontinuing to carry ammo, or are citizens still in fear of Obama and stocking up.

    Does anyone know?

They sure did--bought a whole new gun and everything. Took something like 15 weeks though, I was just happy to have a replacement for free! And I got a refund on the ammunition I bought from them.

I even got to pick the color (olive drab green) and change my model from a compensated to non-compensated (the c model was a bad decision for SD in the first place sadly)
