    not necessarily "softer" recoil just a different recoil..the .40 has more of a wrist breaking SNAP..the .45 ACP IMO(and maybe just mine) has more of a straight back push and roll type recoil...I like the .45 ACP MUCH better than the .40S&W. I had a Glock 23 and when that went so did all my .40S&W ammo as I totally eliminated that caliber from my lineup. Now im waiting to get a smaller semi auto(gave up on ever having the $$ to get a nice .45 ACP 1911 platform..just too much $$$) probably will be a USED Glock 36 OR a Taurus 145 Mill Pro(3rd gen).
