    1911 GI'ish reccomendations

Going to purchase a new 1911 GI of some sort with some of my return this year. Looking towards something more on the less expensive side. Like the Springfield GI and Mil-specs, as well as even kinda thinking Taurus. Has anyone had a chance to fondle the new Para Expert GI? Oh and this is gonna be a CCW and just all around fun range gun.

    Thumbs up

GI Mil-Spec! Great 1911 outta the box and a great company in case you need any repair work done. Kept mine stock for years. Finally added an Ed Brown ambi thumb safety, Wilson trigger, hammer and drop in beavertail and had the trigger set at a crisp 5 lbs. Been a great gun in 19 years and sleeps right beside me every night with SGD 230 Grainers in it. Never has malfunctioned, even with SWC's. Change the recoil and mag springs out every year with Wolffs on my B-Day and keep it lubed with Militec-1. She will do you right. Mine will shoot with the best of em at half the price. Also is a great carry gun with the right IWB holster!

    Senoir Chief Sportster,
Thanks for the reply. Yeah I do like SA's GI Mil-Spec. I've got a handful of SA XD'S and have had great luck with them. What holster is your SA GI pictured in?

I have a Rock Island Armory GI and it has been a great shooter and is about 200-300 dollars cheaper than the Springfield. It has been a great firearm! The Springer would be a better base gun if you did decide down the road to have it customized.

If you really want something to look like a GI issue, Colt has a nice reproduction out right now... but it's pricey.

After that, the Springer GI's aren't 100% like the originals, but they're close enough for me... great price and amazing customer service.

Unless Taurus came out with something new, their 1911's didn't look very GI-ish...

RIA, I've heard good things (really absolutely surprising good things) about and they will save you some coin... but that lifetime warranty and AMAZING customer service from Springfield are worth the extra money to me...

+1 or is it 2 for the Rock

My Rock Island 1911 is solid as a...well...rock.

I have the compact (3.5" brl) but the full size is a typical GI style, no frills standard 1911. Try it, you'll like it!

I think this is as close to an RIA website ARMSCOR if you click on 'partners' you'll see the company names that are put on their pistols.

I, personally, would not go with the Rock. It isn't that there is anything wrong with it, many people love theirs, as you can see, and mine has been reliable.

But to be honest, every time I pick mine up, I just think, "Cheap." It's the one gun in my collection I wish I could get rid of.

Can't explain it, might not be logical, but it is what it is. Good luck with your choice.

You are welcome sir. The holster is a HBE Leatherworks DC Special IWB thats a tuckable if you choose to carry that way. It is the BEST holster I've ever strapped on. It is easy on/off and it supports the Springer so well I can carry it without a belt. The clips are way stronger and more durable than Kydex. With a belt it is fantastic for all day carry. Slept a few hours on the recliner with no problem. I highly recommend it or the HBE COM III for whichever 1911 you buy. I have both and like not having to struggle at times with the loops of the COM III. I had a slight problem (sweat guard 1/4 of an inch too short) with the DC and called Eric about it. He had me send it back. He is replacing it and adding his shark skin option to it. That's what I call great customer service!!
    Here is Erics site:

Here is a pic of the COM (stands for comfortable and they are) III with my BHP, also a 5 star holster IMO!

Hope you find the 1911 you want and still recommend the SA Mil-Spec. It's a great no frills weapon that will do the job right out of the box.

    Respectfully,

I love my Springfield GI 1911 A-1. Brand new for less than $600.
