Once you say over 12 rounds you're narrowing it down to staggered mags. Paraordance comes to mind, and Glock G21. Two completely different types of guns.
Not sure what other manufacturers make staggered mag 45's.
I don't think you can get much better than the Glock 30, 30SF, or the XD45 Compact. They don't quite hold 12 rounds, but pretty close to it, and they're small in size.
I'd have to say the XD45Compact or the Glock 30 or 30SF. They hold 10 plus 1 but they are capable of using 13 round mags. These would be the XD45Service mags or the Glock 21 mags.
When you say "smallest" you imply a small gun. But 12 rounds of .45 take up a lot of space, requiring a fairly large grip and gun. I don't think there are any 12 round .45 handguns that I would call "small".
The guns on the market with 12 round .45 capacity include the Glock 21, several wide grip Para Ordnance 1911s, the H&K USP 45 and a few others. They are all pretty big for a handgun. I would propose that the "best" of these is the H&K USP 45:
IMHO the "BEST" .45 with a high capacity for CCW is a Commander sized "4 1/4" barrel) 1911 with an extra mag. There is no 12+ rd .45 that carries like the original. No other that is half as battle tested either. Remains the preferred choice of thousands of competitors also. There simply is nothing like it. Period ! Glock Model 30/30SF with Model 21 magazine for 13+1 capacity? I carry a Model 30 with a standard magazine in the well; my spare magazine is a Model 21 magazine.
Not sure how you're going to carry that (since you are here that's what I assume) but if you can, that's great. Wish I could. I have enough trouble hiding my Glock G36. :yup:
12rds of .45ACP takes up quite a bit of space. If you're willing to go two rounds fewer, consider the Para Ordnance Warthog. If not, consider the STI VIP, ParaOrd Carry 12, or one of the others above.
I went to Bass Pro today. Held a S&W MP45. It felt cheap :gah:and I am a big S&W fan. It was close to the same size as the FNP45 also but with less rounds . I held a Sig 220 It felt a little smaller than the FNP But holds only 8 rnds nicley made and had the price tag to prove it. I held a Glock 21 and a 30 Not going to happen. :gahid not like it at all.
The FNP felt nicely made. Smooth feel to it. The grip is perfect. :image035:It didn't feel top heavy like the HKUSP45 does. The only thing I didn't like about it was that it didn't have a stainless barrel to go with the stainless slide.
