    Drank the Glock Cool-Aid

I tried to hold out as long as possible, and I finally couldn't resist it any longer. I originally was set on a G-19. I had already ordered a replacement barrel from Storm Lake, and a set of 24/7 sights from XS.

So I have been waiting on this thing to ship for over a month now from an online retailer. I started getting tired of waiting and started doing some research online. Low and behold, figured out that you can drop a g-19 (9mm) barrel into a g-23 (40 S&W). You can also use the 13 round .40 mags for the g-23, with 9mm. It holds 15 9mm. I have been sitting on the barrel and sights for some time now so it seemed like a good choice to cancel the online order, and go with the .40. I figured, I can carry it stoked with .40, and goof around with 9mm as it is cheaper for me to reload and buy market ammo in 9.

I saw that Cabelas was running a special on Glocks and decided to give them a shout. They had a few g-23's in stock, so I ran out there this morning and picked it up. Got it home, was bit skeptical that the Storm Lake barrel would fit without any tweaking. Got the sights installed, and put my poor man bicycle tubing on the grip. Sorry about the pics, they were taken on my phone.

Congrats on the 23. One thing though. I wouldn't depend on the .40 magazines to carry 9mm reliably. It might be fine for range but if you want to carry this then I'd go with real 19 magazines.

+1 So not suggested for SD, but great for the practice / range.

Not only the mags, but there are a few other pieces that would need to be changed out to make it SD worthy.

Everything I have read states that while what you have done will work, the % of FTF does increase. Say 1 out of 100 or 200 (depending on ammo). Interested in hearing about your results the next few months.

Danimal - it looks nice! How hard was it to install the XS sights? Did you have to do any filing on the rear sight?

You should try it without the bicycle tubing. It almost might work loose - the standard 3rd gen Glock grip is pretty good even when your hands get sweaty.

Yes, the rear sight was a bit of a pain in the can. I did have to do a bit of filing. I probably did more than I needed to, but I was afraid of breaking the tritium vial by banging on it with the supplied punch. I filed on it with a jewelers file and some 320 grit paper. I made it about half way with thumb pressure, and then I broke down and banged on it with the plastic punch.

I don't think there is any way the tubing is going to work itself loose. Thanks for the suggestion though.

When I have the money I will probably buy a Glock 17. I have been drooling over a Glock 9mm for long enough.
