    $1000 1911

I'm trying to get some ideas on a new 1911, my first, maybe someone has some they like that I have not thought of.

I'll be using this gun as a "fun" gun only, I will not be carrying it. The most I would like to spend is $1000. I was thinking at least a 4 or 5 inch barrel, again this gun will only be used at the range.

    Thanks for the help guys.

I think the Springfield Armory MC Operator is right around that price range. Maybe $1100 or so? Great pistol, fantastic starter 1911.

Take a look at the Taurus PT1911, several different configurations available and well within the price range your looking at.

What's wrong with a good old fashioned Colt 1911? Used, of course. Still the best imho.

I would go with a 70 series Colt if you got a $1000 to spend.

You can get one of those for $1000?

It sounds like a great gun to own if you can.

I would go for a Sig GSR. It has all of the goodies that you will just end up paying extra for later, no MIM, and you never hear anything about their accuracy except "Tack Driver".

An original Colt would be nice.

The only 1911 that I would consider under $1000 is the Colt Gold Cup Trophy. Where else can you find a competition level barrel 1911 for that kind of money. I do own a Springfield 1911 SS Loaded, but I would only take a Colt Gold Cup Trophy to a competition.

The best side benefit is that you will not see the gun with a "rampant pony" go down in value.

    In the Sig GSR, actually.

Now add the checkered front and back straps, the Novak night sights, the complete lack of MIM, match barrel, match trigger and hammer/sear groups, extended beavertail grip safety with bump, dehorned for carry, extended thumb safety, no extra charge if you want a rail, and stainless frame and slide (even the optional Nitron black coating is over stainless) for a price that is usually under a grand and well...it's hard to find a better deal on a NIB 1911 with half these options from anyone else in the business.

Yeah, they're newer than Colts, Springers and Kimbers, but they also offer a higher bang-to-buck ratio by far judging by their respective catalogs...

Colt and a MSRP of $1050? This may be just the ticket:
