Kahr PM9?
I was wondering how good are the Kahr PM9 pistols? Are there any issues I should know about before buying one of these? Also wasn't there an issue with the PM9's plastic magazine release?,if so has it been resolved? And last thing is has you PM9 been reliable out of the box? I've read about a break in period with kahr pistols but is this for the steel or polymer guns? Thanks for any help.

I just purchased a new PM9 and so far it has been fantastic! Superbly accurate and 100% reliable straight from the box, no break-in required. Carries like a dream. The new ones like mine have metal mag releases. Go ahead and buy one. You won't regret it.

Actually... Kahr's manual states that a Kahr handguns 'must be run through an initial break-in period before achieving fully reliable feeding and functioning. The pistol should not be considered reliable until after it has fired 200 rounds.'
Now...having said that, mine has been flawless out of the box!

I appoligize. I didn't mean that Kahrs do not need a break-in period. And yes I know it says so in the manual. What I meant was mine worked perfectly straight from the box and did not require the suggested break-in period. I'm really impressed with this new PM9. It's my first Kahr.

Mine didn't need the break-in, really; it was a bit tight to begin with, but it was, and is, one of the most accurate and reliable guns I've ever seen, and pretty much the best value for a semiautomatic available. Though if I were only going to have one Kahr, I'd get the MK9. (The PM9 is my "party gun" for times when I want the gun as inconspicuous as possible - my kid calls it my "James Bond gun" - my "carry gun" is a K9 Elite 2003 with nightsights.)
As far as I know, the problems have been resolved. And, if you look around at how many complaints Kahr gets on the internet compared to how many other manufacturers get, and what kind of complaints, you'll see that by and large Kahr owners are happiest.
Most of the problems I've seen are with people who try to use the Sig/Glock combat sight picture with a Kahr, which is designed for a revolver/target sight picture. They can't figure out why it shoots so high, until they understand that the front sight isn't supposed to cover the target.

I have a 1st gen PM9, one of the first shipped as a matter of fact... its been perfect. You do have to follow directions and know what you are doing with micro sized pistol, if you do, its a great quality piece.

Mine had a few minor malfunctions during break in, no big deal to me. I carry it with confidence. It is a tremendous carry pistol when size/capacity is considered.
My biggest obstacle with it is that it is so small I have to keep reminding myself it is adequate as a primary. 9mm is 9mm, but the Glock 19 feels more substantial. Except for round count, they are essentially equal (the size just feels so... .380 ish
). Hard hitting, small package. A dynamo!

had mine for a couple years now, has run perfectly for me ever since. I've probably shot around 6-700 rounds through it, though I don't shoot often now (thank you 2009 economy). I carry my PM9 more than anything else, with the only modification being a Hogue Handall Jr on the grip for comfort against my skin when holstered. This gun is incredibly accurate, and I shoot it better than anything but my special little foreign gun that makes everyone look like a sharp shooter ;)

After a few malfunctions during the break in, mine has been 100% reliable. I have around 1,000 rounds through it now, all types of ammo from mild fmj handloads to +P hollow points, it eats em all just fine. It's what I carry when concealment is vital, or as a backup to something bigger.

I've got two of these beauts and nary a problem to speak of once broke in with a couple of hundred rounds. Well over 1000 through one and 500 through the other. It's an amazing piece of work that you'll value for years to come.

I've put approximately 1200 rounds through mine. With the exception of a single misfeed during the first 20 rounds it has been flawless. I now trust its reliability just as much as my Sig P-239.

Mine has a born on date from sometime in mid 2007 and it's been stamped U for used. I can say that I'm pretty sure it's got over 4000 rounds through the barrel. With that high count it's working on it's second recoil assembly (the big spring from the first one actually broke). I also had to replace the plastic mag release with the newer metal one as it would occasionally let the mag loose on recoil. It's been dropped, scratched, slid across asphalt and sweat on. It looks far from new, but still works great. I've considered getting something new & pretty to put in my pocket, but nothing fits the bill like a PM9.
