Wilson is obviously the most expensive - sheesh!
...but who makes the highest quality 1911?
I've heard it told that in the 1911 family, you get what you pay for. Is that true?

Wilson, Nighthawk, Ed Brown, Les Baer.
All have their proponents, all are outstanding, and all are pricey.
IMHO, you do tend to get what you pay for, but that's not to say you can't get a very fine 1911 without buying "the best". Having said that, a Wilson CQB compact is on my own "must have" list......

This could get interesting!
I stick with original Colt guns myself.
I don't know anything about 1911, but it is on my list of things to learn about so I can get one. I think it's either 2nd or 3rd in line right now. Anybody have anything good to say about Springfield?
Smith & Wesson M&P9cCrossbreed Supertuck
Ruger LCP
Nitecore EX10 R2
SOG Access Card 2.0
There is no "best" and Wilson is not the most pricey.
Regarding getting what you pay for, it's mostly true, there are plenty of good guns under the $2K mark. All that being said. If I could have only one current production 1911, it would probably be a Springfield, Dan Wesson, Ed Brown Les Baer, Wilson Combat, or Fusion 1911.
Tricky question.
The missus and I each have a Kimber - hers is the Ultra Aegis II, and my Kimber is the Ultra CDP II. We felt they were a good value representing reliability, performance and concealment in a solid 1911 design for EDC.
That being said, I have a friend who custom makes 1911s to order based on the Colt Series 70 frame and rail. Everything else is custom. I am having one of those hand-built for me. It will even have my name engraved on it. Pricey, but what I consider "the best".
He claims Wilson's are simply the new Kimbers - good quality but now mass-produced. The best for me is a gun with the guts all made and tuned by hand - the way Bill used to build them.
You might as well ask what better, 9mm or 45.

M&P Doc- Just ask.
I'm very partial to the Les Baer. But from what I've seen you really can't go wrong with any of the "top" makers. As for caliber -- it's not a 1911 unless its a .45 - just my .02 worth!!

Well... that's one of the ones you wont get a straight answer. I own a series 80 Colt, I own a Kimber and I own a SA TRP. I think I like the latter the best. Why? It's well made, it does not have extra doohicky internal safeties that were added to both the series 80 Colt or Kimber BUT there are things I'd still change in it (different sights for example).
Anyways, if you are looking for the BEST 1911, as most said, have a custom one built or have yours modified by a gunsmith to your specs and if you go down that route, ask the smith of choice what he'd like for a base to start from.
I agree with everyone, get a custom built, I have a few and I couldn't tell you which one is the best I have, maybe the one I carry every day but that's bias and wrong.
I think one of the best bang for your buck, is any or most springfield loaded.
or if you just want a 1911 I love my colt 80 series "the cheapest one I could find at the time", the taurus is a good value as well, I forgot the brand of another good value one.
all are good that's what I'm trying to say.

SIXTO, did you bring the popcorn, I ran out!![]()
Wilson Combat...I shot one and drove all 9 rounds through the same hole basicly. It was one hell of a gun.
