What are you referring to as a "flat" baseplate? Something like this:

If so it would end up looking like this:

Technically the stock one is flat. The added thickness is to fill the gap between the base of the mag and the bottom of the grip. If you put a flat floorplate on without that extra plastic it would have a gap between the mag and the grip.
The bottom of the stock baseplate is the bottom of the magazine.
I was asking about something flush fitting yes kind of like the way a stock glock 26 magazine fits compared to it having a pearce grip extender.
In order to have it flush you would have to lose a round of capacity and have a shorter magazine. If you were to pull the floorplate off the stock G36 magazine and slide the body into the grip it would still hang out the bottom just as much as it did with the floorplate on it.
Does that make sense?
yeah makes sense now i didn't realize this before.
I have a G-36, and I wouldn't change anything...why?
I had the same question -- I would be willing to lose a round so that there wasn't the thick extension beneath the pistol grip. Is there a third-party way of hacking a magazine like that through one of the amazing armorers around?
