If there is any cost difference between the 442 and 642, its not worth mentioning; its very minor if any at all. I think dealer cost is the same.
I would expect to pay right around 400, 400 being the median price. You can find them at 350-375 once in a while, but most will be right at the 4 mark.
The 642 is considered to be a little more physically attractive by some because of the stainless finish, but the role that it plays as a CCW it really is just a personal preference what color you go with.
I was considering the benefits of stainless more than the appearnce. If the cost isn't a big deal I'd go stainless. The blued version probably weighs less though.
The 642 is not a stainless finish. It is a silver powdercoat or something similar. The 442 is a black powdercoat. I have owned both.Quote:

As a BUG, it will work. I'd prefer the 642...I like shiny.
I already have the 637, but instead using it for a BUG...I just take along extra mags for my Kimber.
I carry the 642, it was $375. Love it.
I purchased a 642 No-lock for $437 last November. Use as my BUG and when riding the Harley, tucked in my jacket as Primary.

Like others have stated the 642 sould be had for around 4 bills. it could be a bit more more or less in your area. The "silver" finish on the 642 wears relatively well but you can scratch it if you are not careful and if you carry it a lot it will show some holster wear over time.
The 642 is certainly one of the best bugs crawling around today

The 642 frame is indeed lightweight aluminum alloy, but the cylinder is stainless allowing the 642 to handle +P ammo. I love mine.
