    1911s which to buy?

In the class of 1911s that are custom or semi-custom which is the best for CC? I am talking 5" barrel between the 2500 dollar and below range. When one looks it just becomes mind cramping to figure it with no experience in this realm. Those who have been down this road what have you figured out? Learned and regretted?

Now I was about to mention a Kimber product, but for $2500, I'd be looking at Ed Brown Firearms...OMO...some very nice stuff!

Ed Brown Products, 1911, parts, rifles

Late addition here...Wilson and Baer also make some fantastic pistolas.

I would buy a base gun from Colt and send it to a gunsmith of my choice for the custom pieces/parts that I desire.

+1 to Ed Brown. Wilson Combat makes some great 1911 pistols. Either one of those would be a fine choice.

Any experience with Wilson? The CQB Elite seems intriguing. Or higher end Springfields? Les Baur? I agree that Ed Browns look good as well. Any specific models? A lot of Ed Browns have adjustable sights That gives me concern.

I have a wilson combat CQB and could not be happier with it. I started with a Kimber but traded it in on the CQB and never looked back. It is definitely accurate and has a great trigger. If you get the chance to handle one you can tell it is built very solid. On a side note, what helped me make up my mind between a Wilson and a Brown was the reputation for their great customer service.

I think they're all good, but each has a different "personality". Hold out until you find the one that really catches your eye and get that. So many choices so little time, but doing it right the first time saves a lot of time, effort and money.
For me it's an Ed Brown Kobra Carry. Makes everything else almost obsolete. I'd much rather have one perfect gun than twenty good ones. Although, some find a $500 Springfield to be perfect and there's certainly nothing wrong with that.

If it's Wilson you want, I recommend the Protector (stainless for me). Read up on it on their site.

I agree with the others here. If you're prepared to go to $2500 then you should certainly look at Ed Brown and Wilson.

Buy a Dan Wesson and pocket the change? That's mostly a serious suggestion. Their Valor model looks very nice, but if I were to get a 1911, it would be their Commander Bobtail model.

uplandman--don't forget all the "little" extras that quickly add up to big $$--like a good quality holster (or two or three), a good quality gun belt (or one of each color), extra mags and extra mag holders and oh yes, don't forget my latest add-on, the Crimson trace lasergrips

I bought a Kimber Ultra Raptor to replace a stolen Glock and I am very happy with it.
