The Thunder Ranch .44 is getting harder to find although a dealer in my area still has one... I just got the "new and improved" Thunder Ranch Model 22 in .45 ACP.

This gun is even nicer -- a true square butt N-frame fixed sight carbon steel fighting gun, all for around $600 or so.

I guess the answer to the question posed in this thread is a resounding "Yes!"

    S&W 66 4" or a S&W 686 2.5"?

Well, the title asks it all -

I am 6'4" and have large hands. Which of the two would make the better smokewagon to carry?

Ridge - I would choose the 686 myself. Better carry barrel length too.

    Ridge,

You can adjust either the K-frame 66 or the L-frame 686 to a proper grip size... so that is not a problem.

Largely it depends on how you want to carry it. The shorter barrel is better for an OWB holster for sure -- less to cover. The longer barrel may be OK in an IWB rig if its comfortable for you.

For me, the edge woud definitely go to the 686 if it was a 686+ (with 7 rounds on tap).

Sorry, This post was to Euclidian.
Why are you uncomfortable with the moon clips? I shoot a 610 and a 625 in competition, and have found with quality moon clips(Herthco) reloads average around 1 second or more faster than my GP-100 reloads with comp-3 speedloaders. It's also easier for me to fumble my reloads with speedloaders than moon clips. In a carry scenario, moon clips are easier to conceal, and have no moving parts.

I carry a Kel Tec P11 most of the time, but I occasionally strap on a Rossi M68 3" .38Spl. just because. I like the Rossi, I trust it, I can shoot well with it, but the KT holds twice the rounds and I can hit COM within defensive useage distances.

I've always wanted a Ruger SP101, I love the look of it. For CCW I thinking of getting it in .32H&R, giving me 6 shots instead of 5. I know some of you may not think the .32H&R is adequate for self defense, but it is equal or superior to the .380ACP and a lot of poeple carry that.

There are many fine revolvers available today. They are offered in sizes/calibers to fit any occasion or job at hand, and are generally very dependable.

I think wheelguns are nostalgic, handsome firearms. We all should have a good selection on hand. That will keep the gun makers very busy and the more we buy, the cheaper they'll get for all of us.

So, get to your favorite dealer, pick out your next one, and pack it on occasion. You'll feel all better about life.

Actually, S&W still sells a huge volume of j-frames.

I would bet that in the civilian concealed carry world, that J-frames outnumber autoloaders 2 to 1 -- maybe higher. I have no basis in reported facts for that opinion, just an educated guess.

(This board, by the way, is NOT representative of the civilian concealed carry world, IMHO. I wish it was -- but its not.) ;)
