What holds 14 rds of 230 gn .45 ACP and only weighs 2.5 oz more than a Sig 229R?

It was a surprise to see that 14 rounds of 230 gn .45ACP in a G21SF weighs only 2.5 oz more than a fully loaded, 14 rounds of 124 gn 9mm, in a Sig 229R.

Now size, that's a bit different story. Now every time I start to carry my beloved Sig 229R 9mm, I remember that with only a mere 2.5 oz increase in weight, I can carry my G21SF, which I do.

Wow. That's impressive. How much is the gross weight then?

Shoot matiki, you got me. I measured the Sig first as a 'tare' or reference and then measured the Glock. All the scale showed was the difference in weight - 2.5 oz.

It was easy for me to remember the 2.5 oz difference, but I really should remeasure and give gross weights - thanks for the nudge.

No worries. I have only ever weighed one gun, my XD45, and it's 40.5 oz. The Glock sounds like it might be lighter... but I'll have to wait to find out I guess.

If you do the Frankenglock conversion and put a 36 slide, on the 30sf frame you loose a few ounces as well (at least I am assuming you do). I don't have a digital scale, otherwise I would post some results.

The G21SF is not as long as a 1911 or Beretta 92FS, and fully loaded, the G21SF weighs the same as an unloaded 1911 well, assuming a 1911 weighs 38 oz empty. The G21SF actually weighs 1.9 oz more according to last night's measurement. It is almost exactly the same dimensions as a Sig 226 and weighs exactly the same with both guns fully loaded. So the same type of holster you carry a 1911, 92FS, or Sig 226 in would work for the G21SF.

I currently carry it in a CompTac Gladiator.

    I weighed the fully loaded (14 rounds, 230 gn, .45ACP) G21SF at 2lbs 7.9oz or 39.9 oz which puts a fully loaded G21SF 1.9 oz heavier than a full size empty 1911. That means a fully loaded Sig 229R (14 rds, 124 gn, 9mm) weighs 37.4 oz.

Size and weight efficiency: two of the stronger points of the Glock line up. Between those, reliability and price point they have assumed an enviable share of the market.

Thanks Tangle... that's great information to have. I'll add the G21SF to my list of guns to look at.
