    FTF Issues

I have a Kimber Ultra Carry that will more often than not fail to feed the first round in the magazine when first chambering a round and releasing the slide from the rearward locked position.

I've used the original magazine and a brand new Wilson Combat and still the same issue. If I chamber the round by cycling the slide myself starting at the forward position, it won't happen nearly as often because I try t do it in one swift 'as rapidly as I can' motion.

Lately also the last round is failing to feed in the new WC magazine. I ususally shoot PMC 230 gr FMJ and Hornady HP 200 gr rounds and makes no difference.

I was thinking to change the springs with Wolffs as I bought the gun used recently and don't know how many rounds have been through the gun.

Anyone have any imput as to what the problem could be? Please keep the Kimber bashing to a minimum if it's not specifically related. The gun fires great with no jams once the first round is chambered, other than the occasional last round that fails to feed as mentioned with the WC mag. Thanks

Are the mag's full when it jams? How about half full or minus 1?

Yes, I forgot to mention. Happens most often with a full mag. If I use 6 rounds instead of the full seven in the mag, it doesn't happen nearly as often, but still occasionally will do it.

Are you releasing the slide by hitting the slide lock or are you releasing it by pulling the slide back and letting it go?

    Bingo...

The slide stop is not how you load the top round. Rack that thing and slingshot it.

It's been jamming when I release the slide lock. If I slingshot it, doesn't happen too much. You should be able to chamber the first round just be releasing the slide lock. I've never had a problem that way with any other guns.

    Is that an issue?

The answer is in your post. While you should be able to chamber the first round by releasing the slide lock, that IMO is not the intended purpose of the slide lock.

You are supposed to slingshot the slide. Simple as that.

Kimbers are typically great guns, but even Rolls-Royce makes a lemon now and then. There are several things you can try:
Insert a full mag, rack the slide and ease it forward. Watch what happens as it pushes the round out of the magazine. Is it feeding straight into the chamber? Usually feeding problems are traced to the magazine.
Something else to try, give the gun a thorough cleaning. There might be some grit or fouling slowing down the slide as it moves forward. You might also check
out the slide rails to see if they're smooth or rough. Polishing them may help. As
a last resort, try a different type of ammo. Some guns refuse to function with anything except RN hardball, although this isn't usually a problem with Kimbers.

In the event none of the above recommendations help solve your problem...GET A GLOCK!
Sometimes in life you have to stand your ground. It's a hard lesson to learn and even most adults don't get it, but in the end only I can be responsible for my life. If faced with any type of adversity, only I can overcome it. Waiting for someone else to take responsibility is a long fruitless wait.

Another common issue is that the ejector spring is to tight or the ejector is to sharp (an issue I have a 1911 at S&W for right now).
