    Glock 19

With no other criterion, I would day that you absolutely cannot go wrong with a Glock 19 9mm.

Go to a range, rent and shoot as many as you can, buy the one that fits best in your hand, is most comfortable for you to shoot and also comfortable to carry. The gun that you don't shoot well or hate to carry won't do you any good. Everyone else is going to tell you to get the same gun that they have. Get the one that's best for YOU.

Guess that depends on what you like, autos or revolvers. And if youve shot and are familiar with guns. Are you carrying concealed? I personally started with a Ruger single six and then to a Glock 23 for cc. And then added some J-frames. Its hard to beat a Glock though.

Going and holding them is the best thing to do, unless you know someone with something to try out then get them to let you shoot it. I enjoy my HKs which were the first guns I bought when I turned 21 6 months ago, but most people don't like the price tag that goes along with them.

You have to hit the range and do some test firing and see what you are comfortable with, I would recommend the G23, XD 45, or a J frame.

your going to get a wide range of opinions here. I would say go and fondle as many as you can at your local gun shop. If your budget and time affords you to go rent guns by all means do that. For your first gun i would suggest getting somthing reliable from a solid manufacturer, and one that you can find ammo for. I personally like the M&P compacts, but go handle them for yourself. good luck.

I have a P99, and love it. Never had a problem w. it. Great gun and feels good to me. Just my .02, I don't like it for CC though, it is a bit big for me.

what is going to be your primary carry position? (IWB, OWB, Shoulder rig, ankle holster.) All those factors will play a good role.

I found a range that rented guns about an hour away and it was about 50 bucks for the gun/range/ammo purchase/rental. It was well worth it.

I recommend the Glock 9mm/.40. I don't have the biggest hands. and the Glock 19/23 and Glock 26/27 was the way for me to go. I have a Glock 27 and will buying a 9mm barrel and a .357 sig barrel for it. so i have more ammo combinations/access to different calibers.

I bought my 27 for $500 cash, night sights/2 mags/1 box of ammo and all the dependability/craftsmanship that a Glock is known for.

    Good Luck!

You should really try to find a shop that rents a variety of guns for you to try. Worst case scenario, go with any of the popular brands (Glock, Springfield Armory, Sig Sauer, S&W, Ruger, Kimber, H&K, etc.).

Good luck and tell us what you and your wife decide to get.
