This has nothing to do with nothing, and almost more properly belongs in off topic, but it is about two CCW guns...
After doing adequate testing for both of them (which was most pleasant), I have settled into carrying around the XD45ACP and the Colt Detective Special. The lack of extra XD mags does bother me, but I'm crossing my fingers and hoping.
Anyway since I've decided to switch from the .40 to the .45, and I believe I should practice with the BUG too, I took them to the old target range briefly today. I didn't shoot too many rounds, nothing special, just more target practice.
The only other two people there besides these three guys on the rifle range sighting in their hunting rifles were myself and a gentleman of a certain maturity. Interestingly I got there first and he set up right next to me.
I can't knock his tastes one bit. He had a Kimber, think it might have been an Eclipse, full government profile, blued finish, but I can't tell one Kimber from the other, and what I believe to be a Smith and Wesson model 28, early iteration.
Anyway the pistol range is one place you can't help but talk to people you don't know from Adam... it's necessary for safety after all, and everyone's always curious to see what you've got there. Heck that's half the fun of going.
And sure enough, after the black parts of the targets are mostly shot out in both lanes, we call a ceasefire.
And he says to me "I'm amazed that gun shoots that well. Those Glocks sure are ugly and most of them don't shoot worth a flip."
And to be fair, he did shoot a smaller group than I did.
"Well actually this is a Springfield..." I try to tell him. For some reason, despite the sheer number of XDs I see up for sale around here, a lot of people still haven't heard the good news. Anyway at this point I learn the the XD45 is on the cover of some gun rag right now and he starts making fun of me just a little bit.
"I bet you buy every new 9mm that comes out."
Actually, this is a .45. I think 9 is fine but .45 makes me feel better.
"Then why don't you get a 1911?"
I will, eventually. I don't really need one so it's a low priority item.
Then it's back to shooting, and one more target change, and I decide to put 4 cylinders' worth through the Colt just because.
I start packing up to go home and he asks me if that's a Colt, and I say sure and open the cylinder and hand it to him so he can have a looksie.
"How can you have such good and awful taste at the same time?" He asks me in all seriousness, and I do quote verbatim.
I carry a HK or a 1911. nothing wrong with whatever gun works for the user. Some folks just have too high opinion of whatever it is they carry or shoot.
Euc......hit him with the price you paid for both of em........and then tell him you have the best of both Worlds, with the XD and Colt dick spl, and have him try to beat the price LOL............ I'm VERY happy that Lil Colt is workin out for you..........BTW......we had another one come in, about the same finish/ condition as yours..............the price on that one...........was out for 350.00 LOl........Glad it was you that got the deal,
Well, no offence or anything but the colt detective special is the second coolest gun (after the chief special) of them all. XDs and glocks and that sort of thing are fine, and those guns are more practical and all that, but for sheer coolness, think Dashiel Hammet and the Continental Op, Black Mask, and Phillip Marlowe, you know? Only western revolvers, such as the SAA, are in the running for coolness. Always been that way, and I hope it always will be that way.
God Bless
Inflexible bias Euc - that is what he suffers from - maybe too we could call it delusions of gunny grandeur!
I do myself find some folks who will not entertain certain gun types and that is most usually even when they have never shot examples. They just have this ''that's crap'' label and once decided little or nothing seems to shake them!
"How can you have such good and awful taste at the same time?"
Nice! Again you and I are on the same page with the XD-45. I cant wait to take mine with me....This has got to be the longest 4-6weeks of my life, waiting for this CHL.
I carry because I care.

You know, it never ceases to amaze me how few people still remember the notion of "live and let live." I may or may not be interested in a particular firearm, and that's fine. That doesn't mean that others won't be interested in it, and I shouldn't have anything invested in whether they like it or not; and they shouldn't care whether I am interested or not. Different things work for different people...that's the way it should be.

I thought you handled the situation very maturely and graciously. I have to second what Rocky said, "Some folks just have too high opinion of whatever it is they carry or shoot."
Your XD .45 rocks! Of course so does your Sig 220, well when you get that junk cleaned out of it. And so do 1911s, Glocks, and H&Ks. They and numerous others are all good.
You guys really took this worse than I did, hehe. I thought it was funny he was so set in his ways, I saw a little bit of myself in that. I didn't know what to tell him though, he was so frank about it.
In a weird way it was sort of refreshing to hear some honesty.

Euc, this isn't "honesty" it's opinion and like @$$HOLES...everybody's got one and they all STINK! You shouldn't have to put up with B$ like that. There is something to that old saying my mom taught me: If you haven't got anything nice to say...don't say anything at all!
Another thought that just occurred to me on second reading in response to his 'good taste' comment; "Good taste is a ragged hole in the center of your target." Doesn't matter if you punch that hole with a Les Baer or a Glock, as long as it's there when you hit slide lock.
