    Question about Glock 36

Ok, so I'm proofing a book today and there's a Mob theme, so a lot of discussion about which guns each Mobster and their requisite bodyguard owns. What caught my eye was this phrase:

"It was a Glock Model 36 automatic pistol"

Do most people refer to their Glocks as "Model 36" or just "Glock 36" instead?

And, dumb question, but is "automatic pistol" the same as saying "full auto" or "semi-auto?" Does the 36 come as one or both?

I don't know, it just looked weird in print, I figured you all would know if the phraseology was right on the money or not.

    Thanks for the help!

The Glock 36 is just one model of Glock, there's the 17, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23...you get the idea.

The term "Automatic Pistol" is acceptable and does not refer to full auto firearms as the term originated due to the fact that the chamber is loaded automatically by the slide stripping a round off the magazine by being fired.

    Glock 36.

Automatic can go either way, handguns generally refer to semi-auto.

G36 only comes in semi, the only Glock to come in select fire or FA is the Glock 18.

Your right. I never heard anyone say they have a Glock automatic pistol. Sounds kinda nerdy to me. Did the mobster have a pocket protector and thick glasses wrapped with tape in the middle?

Yes, GAP stands for Glock Automatic Pistol, but how many people say that when you ask which Glock they own: none.

I wish I had a full auto G18. Wouldn't that be a blast!? And a full auto G36 would empty it's model specific 6 round mag in about a half second if they did have one.

    Description

*note this is an attempt at being humorous*

For people into Glocks: Glock 36

For people who are into guns: Glock 36 (45 acp 6+1). If they are into guns, but know nothing about Glocks, acp lets them know it's a semiauto. Yes, there have been 45 acp revolvers, but...

For people not into guns: Glock 36 (45 acp semiauto, fires one shot with each pull of the trigger, holds a 6 shot magazine, plus 1 in the chamber for a total of 7 rounds, has a ploymer (plastic) frame, the frame is the grip....the part in your hand). Next question:what's acp?

I think the more common usage among gun people would be just "Glock 36". The "automatic" is not technically correct because the gun is semi-automatic (one shot per trigger pull). To simply say "automatic" with no qualifier implies full automatic, as in a Glock 18. And the word "model" is understood when you say Glock 36, and really not needed.

I would say that if I were a bodyguard for the mafia I would carry something larger and with more capacity than a Glock 36, which is sort of a small defensive hideout gun with 6+1 capacity. If I expected to maybe be in a gunfight with multiple assailants, I'd much rather have a Glock 21, a large .45 gun with 13+1 capacity and longer barrel and grip.
