Can't beat one of the S&W Airweights. I have a 642 in my pocket right now. They are very easy to carry, but because of their light weight, (15 oz.) recoil is brisk with +p ammo.

You should be able to get a 642/442 for around $400.

Model 36 or 60. I like the extra weight in a snub. 450-550, but they keep their value.

I prefer a heavier wheel gun than the Airweight as I think guns should be fun to shoot. The Airweight is too snappy for me.

    Ruger SP101 .357, I like a heavy gun too. $450 to $500.

+1 on the ruger SP101. It is my daily carry and is in .357 mag. The weight and strong build make it a fun shooter too.

If you stumble across a Colt Detective Special, Cobra or Agent, buy it, great carry snubbies, and fun to shoot.

637 S&W airweight: Great to carry but I have to force myself to practice with it. Do not even think about a wood or plastic grip. My preference for the 637 is only because I am anal about having a hammer.

642 is quickly becoming the gold standard bench mark for a pocket snubbie.

Thanks for the replies, went to the gun show today and after 2.5 hours I settled on the Taurus m605 (.357). Brand new and the dealer threw in a box of ammo for $340.........:)
