Which 3" Kimber for daily CC?
I've been looking at the Kimber Ultra-Carry II and the Ultra CDP II.
They appear the same, expect the CDP has a thumb safety. But it seems like most of the Kimber series have an Ultra (3" barrel) edition.
Any advice on which Kimber 3" gun is the best? Again, I would love to hear advice between the Ultra-Carry II and Ultra CDP II especially. Thanks.

Unfortunately I do not own a 1911, but I can imagine what some of the die-hards will say:
"The 5" one!!!"
Alas, I have my eyes on the CDP: all corners rounded, I like the contrasting colors, night sights standard, ambi safety (I'm a lefty).... One of these days.

Well i own & carry a Ultra Carry 2 with night sights & crimson trace laser grips & i love it
i just got it like maybe 2 months ago but i have to say its been the best shooting pistol i have ever bought right out of the box
In fact i like it so much iam thinking about selling my Springfield Trophy Match (fullsize 1911) & getting a Kimber Target style fullsize, you just cant beat how good that Kimber feels even when just racking the slide

I have a Kimber Ultra CDP II that is my EDC weapon -- I previously carried a Kimber Ultra Carry II w/ Crimson Trace sights (in fact, I have this weapon for sale if you happen to be in MN and are interested in one).
I really *really* like the CDP II - but it's more about the feature set that this particular weapon has than anything else. It shoots pretty much the sale as the Carry II did for me.

My EDC is the Ultra CDP II...I love the gun...therefore, my vote!

Simple answer is Ultra CDP.
I have had an original 3" Ultra CDP for quite a few years now and trust it like no other.

The CDP is just a fancier version of the UCII. Either is fine but the CDP is the more refined gun.
I personally own the Ultra Carry II in stainless.

Another vote for the CDP. Besides it being sexy, the more refined edges may make for better carry, less snag on clothing, or whatever other excuse you can find to shell out the extra cash. Get the factory night sights when you do it.

So the CDP is just the better edge finishing treatment?
And do they have the Crimson Trace grip for it like they do the Ultra Carry II? I didn't see that option, but the grips look as though they'd be the same.

You didn't mention this Kimber, but I carry the Tactical Ultra II regularly. The mag well is a nice touch as is the ambidexterous safety and Tritium sights. I've had no problems at all, including FTF, and feel totally confident with this pistol. Pretty darn accurate too. Since my normal carry is a Glock, it takes a nice pistol to equal my comfort level as far as reliability is concerned.

Yes, they can both be fitted with a Crimson Trace grip and from your original post, both of them have thumb safeties. The CDP has an ambi thumb safety, which could be a plus or a minus. There are reports of the thumb ambi thumb safety being a pretty weak part and prone to failure. If you do go with the CDP you might want to replace it with an aftermarket safety.
FWIW, when I had the same choice to make, I went with the Ultra Carry II. I couldn't justify the extra cost for features I didn't care about.

Yea...it the ambi safety on the CDP is weak...why would someone buy a CDP over a UCII?

You have to grind or remove the LH (RH side) safety on the CDP if you want to install the Crimson Trace Laser. For the money, the best bang is the new Crimson Carry. I absolutely LOVE mine!
