I will second the NEED for a Sig. Everyone needs at least one (though you can never stop at one). A P220 would fot the bill nicely, but there are many others that are wonderful as well.

    Nothing beats a Sig!

I would answer a good 1911, but you said "one that you don't know that you need.......

......obviously you must already know that you need a good 1911!

I'd say a nice SIG, maybe a P229 SAS...followed by a Milt Sparks holster with shark trim.

    smith & wesson:
any 460: spits 3 different cartridges whats not to love
a model 29: everybody needs one even if it's just to look at
a model 625: any 45 lover needs one, handles 45 super fine, can be made to chamber 45 colt & acp
    a model 610: 10mm & 40 SW galore

cant go bad with a DE and flashy finish, I would go with 44 mag but thats me

I like your idea of the 1861 Civil War musket. My parents are reenactors and my father has a replica. So much fun. There are very reasonable reproductions like Italsport and some others $350-$500. Since you have all of he other categories covered, I think that would bring you a lot of fun. If you don't get one, you will be missing out on something very fun to play with. Go with an Enfield reproduction. The look the best. There are so many though, you will find what you like.

No store has a thousand bucks worth of ammo, (except rifle rounds).

Don't have any advice on your problem, lol, but I just wanted to say that I recently started reenacting and it is a ton of fun. I highly recommend it. So I guess I vote for the Springfield :P

    do you have reloading equipment?

If i were in your position, given the current market, I would invest in reloading supplies.

    More feedback -

357 Mag - Got one, a Ruger Security Six, my first ever handgun purchase. It lives in a ready service locker in the bedroom.

Sig - I know they have a great reputation, but so does HK, and buying a duplicate to my duty HK will trump a Sig for now.

Ammo - Yup, can't spend a grand on it anywhere that I know of.

Reloading - I do in order to save $$, and right now I'm almost out of reloaded 9mm for practice. I've been slowly accumulating primers at the only place in the country I know of for reasonably priced primers - a local store that limits purchases to 200 at a time. Note: I'm not hoarding, just trying to buy enough to keep shooting. Once my just-ordered case of bullets shows up I'll be reloading again.
