I think that you ought to get something like a Glock 34 or a S&W M&P Pro and start going to IDPA matches.

A grand to blow and no idea what you need? I'm voting for an EBR AK-74, Bulgarian, milled receiver, and made by Arsenal.

Ammo is still pretty cheap in the 5.45 market right now too.

I'm not quite in the same situation you are but do have what I think I need in defensive handguns and shotguns. Recently I took a shine to vintage revolvers and bought a 1970's edition of a 6" blued S&W 27-2. Next purchase may be a Colt Python. You can't go wrong with classic wheelguns.

If you don't know what you want to buy, then it's kinda a waste, isn't it ? Save your money for when you really want something.

+1 for a qualilty 1911. I bought a new Sig 1911 about a year ago for $600 and love it. Unfortunately, it is hard to find one now for much less than a grand.

+1 for some fun with an AR. Seven months ago, you could get a REAL NICE ONE for $700. Now an entry level version is over a grand.

+1 on a $1000 worth of ammo. Unfortunately, a grand doesn't buy as much ammo as it did last October for some reason???

Sounds like waiting for these sofas has devalued your gun buying funds. Better not let that stand in your way next time.

How about putting all or part of your funds towards a hunting lease and some fun in the great outdoors?
